I've gotten a bit tired seeing the typical Human, Orc, Undead, and Night Elf races, so I've decided to make some new ones.
My races I've got started are the Blood Elves (Human), Trolls (Orc), The Forsaken (Undead), and Naga (Night Elf). With the exception of the Trolls race, these have all been seen and played as during the campaign mode. The races are coming along nicely and work surprisingly well, but I am missing some things that I would like advice and help with.
First of all, the only rules I have are no trigger use, and avoid custom script.
Blood Elves;
*Can't get Dark Ritual spell to work on non-undead units, is this possible or should I find a new spell?
*Need a second flying unit other than the Dragonhawk Rider, higher or lower tier (and of course any upgrade/ability ideas)
*A Blood Elf feeling siege unit. I tried taking the Steam Tank and making it more "magical", but if anyone has a better idea, that'd be great
Trolls
*Hero ideas, I've got 3 heroes, but they all are Troll Warlords for the 3 troll clans that make up the troll race (Dark, Forest, and Ice trolls)
*I don't want the berserker trolls portrait to show up in the war hut (barracks) build menu untill the berserker upgrade is purchased. Upon purchase, the old forest troll disapears properly, and everything is fine. Before that though, the berserker and regular forest troll portraits are seen (though the berserker is un-available do to requirements) I should note that i have made a second troll berserker, in addition to the spearthrower berserker. (for the spearthrower, i am not having this problem).
*Tier 3, I have no tier 3 whatsoever for the trolls. I need a name for the tier 3 building (i will use the fortress model unless someone has a better idea), tier 3 units of any kind that you can think of (mainly a heavy flyer), and any other upgrades/abilities that could be thought up for the trolls.
Forsaken
*If anybody can think up a brand new race all together, say something because these are far to similar to the undead that is already in the game.
*2 more heroes, I have the Dark Ranger (thats a given) and i tried the version of dreadlord you get during the campaign, but it just doesn't feel like Forsaken, and i tried pitlord (modified to have different abilities from the dreadlord), but that is even worse. Ideas are very welcome.
*2nd caster unit, I have the Banshee.
*Heavy melee unit (or ranged to make them even more different) ideas
*Flying units, I have no flying units available to the forsaken (i should note that i have the obsidian statue, but will not be making the destroyer form available)
Naga
Quick note: The Naga race is basically how Blizzard made them, with the exception of the heroes that I've added
*Tier 2 and 3 structures for the town hall (+rep for anyone who can make, and submit, custom models)
*Lumber drop off structure (like the lumber mill) and/or upgrade structure
*2nd caster and 2nd flying unit (or a flying caster if anyone has any good ideas)
*An item selling building (like the Arcane Vault)
*A good name for a sea giant producing structure
And of course, any other ideas, changes, and advice you can give would be great. Below is a map with all the units that I have at least started editing.
The races are not exactly playable yet, but feel free to mess around with them as you please and do as you will with them. Add them them to melee maps if you want!. The way I've made them should make it as simple as saving the unit, abilities, buff and effects, and upgrades sections, then load them into an existing melee map. Also included is a .txt file that merely has all the units/structures that I have planned (again, at the time of writing this) to add to the new races.
