I've seen references to "rects" - which I assume is short for rectangles - in topics about JASS code, and (I believe) WEU adds GUI actions, etc. for them. What are they?

They seem to be like regions. Are they one and the same?

Simple explanation: regions and rects are one and the same.

Complex explanation: there are two types in Jass, "region" and "rect." Regions are not the regions we're used to; they can have shapes that aren't rectangles. For whatever reason, Blizzard decided not to add them to GUI and instead gave rects a more user-friendly name.

but for some things you need a region and theres a trigger
edit: convert rect to region
thats used for the event

As far as I know, a region is a group of rects.
Rects are rectangle-shaped, thus a region could be of any shape, combining different rects from different coords.
