Now, I see why Mojang is a small dev team, with just a few devs working on Minecraft alone. They are successful because of how motivated they are.

And then we go to some big companies, and sometimes we see a few layoffs here and there from them, because some few workers are not motivated enough to continue working, and they just loaf around. There are some who are being wrongly laid off for no reason, but we'll be ignoring that gray area for now.

I'm just saying, two people alone working on one thing might be less motivational than just one person working on the same thing. It's a possibility that no numbers can define.

My comrade, we need to think of something worth being motivated.

They're successful in keeping it updated because Minecraft is a single project that, let's be honest, isn't exactly World of Warcraft or something. Like, there isn't that heavy of a workload thrown on them. My initial landscape generators are using almost exactly the same thing as that entire game, minus the networking capacity and adding in tools for large scale transformations (which is what makes Minecraft suck, IMO. I never got into it because I didn't want to explore I wanted to create, but I don't want to sit here for twenty five hours placing a few thousand blocks to make it so that I can have a mountain here. I want to go into an overhead, put the mountain there, and modify aspects of it to my need).

Its pretty obvious in my opinion.
With a higher group, your own work isnt as important to the outcome anymore as it is if you work alone. Thus, you see it as a chance to slack off.
You also dont want to work much more then anybody else in the group. You will either be seen as a workoholic who wants to make his teammates look bad or a control freak who wants to do everything himself.
And if you notice the other people becoming less and less productive, you lose your own motivation because you question whether or not the others are interested in the goal at all and if there is any chance for the project to succeed.

I think the best way to work on a game project is to split your group into separate branches with very few, or only one, person working on it.
Graphics, sound, programming, ai, ...
I like to work at least together in a team of 2, it helps to have somebody to talk to and you dont have to feel bad if one of them is doing more work then the other. Because the one working less can act as moral support and develope the ideas together with the other person, like your personal quality assurance.

I did my fair share of questioning myself when I was working on Marble Run. Heck, our team somehow split up in the midst of developing it.

FireCat, that only works on something that is worth being competitive for.

Yes, But with a group of people, it's pretty effective. It doesn't matter what kind of Competition it is. Well, there's always someone who wants to be best.

Btw: why not make an "fees Competition?" :) It might even motivate you "to not forget a little thing" Hmm. RIGHT?

Forget it, so much effort that I'm just going to sleep it in.

Anything involving money will get polarizing results, no matter what.

FireCat was originally supposed to be FireBear (which would have sounded cooler and made us give him more respect.)

How come you're so into recipes lately? Never saw this much interest in this topic in the old days of TH.net

Hmm, how do I change my signature?
  • tom_mai78101 tom_mai78101:
Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

@tom_mai78101 I must be blind. If I go on my profile I don't see any area to edit the signature; If I go to account details (settings) I don't see any signature area either.
  • The Helper The Helper:
You can get there if you click the bell icon (alerts) and choose preferences from the bottom, signature will be in the menu on the left there https://www.thehelper.net/account/preferences

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
