Select hero with a key

For you who have played dota you know what I mean about selecting the hero and pressing E during the random draft will make you pick that hero. For you who haven't, in dota you can select a hero you are not controlling and then he displays a button in his interface (where the spells and "stop", "attack" etc. buttons are and if you click this button or uses it's hotkey (E) you will Spawn a hero of that kind in the start place.

How do I manage to to something like this? I'm clueless does he count as a vendor and the button is counted as a buyable item?

most definitely an ability that does nothing and triggered the rest. hotkey seem like the give away in my opinion

Set the "selecting" hero to shop with one buyable unit/item (doesn't matter).
Whenever someone buys it, delete the unit/item and add the selected hero under control of buying player.

ok I've been playing with editor for quite some time now but I just have never made a custom shop in any way can someone explain more how to do? I will just do it wrong if I try myself

Add ability Select Unit to some building and then add some units to Techtree - Unit sold. This should work.

Perhaps the hero is a dummy unit with only the select hero ability. When someone uses the ability on it while it is their turn, it creates the real hero for you.

Event - A unit starts the effect of an ability
Conditions - Ability being cast = Select Hero
If - Triggering unit = Axe dummy
Then - Create 1 Axe at whatever for owner of triggering unit

If i use your idea trees123, you can't use his ability if you are not an owner of the dummy hero so that won't work i guess :/

You can simply change ownership when somebody selects the unit... This may also help to regulate who gets to choose a hero and when

Make the dummy go to an unused race such as neutral extra and grant it Player - ally with full control with the player who's turn it is. Skippy's way is easier though. Just remove the ability select hero/item. That's the effect that creates the arrow. You want to make an item called Select Hero, not an ability.

lol I was experimenting a little bit and I think you might find this useful to know since none of you seemed to know about it I made an ability, not an item that the selection dummy had and he is neutral passive (not share dunit control) and when I had added the ability to him and added "Select Unit" I had a dummy in the area he could select and then I was able to use the "Select" ability with him ^^

Edit: worked even with no dummy in the area

The hotkey for the ability is set to your desired key

It doesn't matter where the dummy is.
I think you should try to learn more about world editor than making hotkeys work. Try something a little less complicated

lol I know what I'm doing I made it work now it's not too complicated just as mentioned in the start of the thread, I have just never needed to make a custom shop before
