Spell : Slowing down at 0 mana

hello, im trying to make a spell where when a unit reaches 0 mana, their movement speed and attack speed drops until they gain more mana. i've been messing around with triggers but me nor my friend can seem to figure out how to do this.

Make a custom spell based off something like cripple, and change the values so that the attack speed is a negative (hold shift then double click the field). You'll also have to set the duration for the spell to 0, so it lasts forever. And you'll also need to make a single dummy unit at map initialization or at some point, that will cast this spell. You'll need to make this dummy unit be able to cast instantly, so read these links: One and Two. For the triggered part, make a periodic event that runs every .25 seconds, that will check every unit if they have 0 mana. Then when these units are found, add them into some group variable, and order the dummy caster to cast your custom cripple on the target, and then you can just trigger the movement speed decrease. Then in that same trigger, check the units in the unit group variable, and if their mana is above 0, reset their speed, remove the cripple buff effect from the unit, and finally remove them from the group.

I could do this is in vJass for you if you'd like, but you'll need newgen.

Why cripple? Why not a self-targeting unholy aura with negative speed and no animation? That way it would work even if the unit were magic immune.

Well that works just as fine also. And cripple can work on magic immune, you just need to know how to edit the spell. :p

Here are plain triggers of what I think mine, the_ideal and BRUTAL triggers would look like (simple style)

Using Unholy Aura that reduces the target's own movement speed by static value.

Trigger:
  • Speed Trig
    • Events
      • Time - Every 1.00 seconds of game time
    • Conditions
    • Actions
      • Unit Group - Pick every unit in (Units in (Playable map area) matching ((Mana of (Matching unit)) Less than 1.00)) and do (Actions)
        • Loop - Actions
          • Unit - Add Reduction Unholy Aura to (Picked unit)


The other trigger which will remove once mana becomes more than zero.

Trigger:
  • Speed Trig Remove
    • Events
      • Time - Every 1.00 seconds of game time
    • Conditions
    • Actions
      • Unit Group - Pick every unit in (Units in (Playable map area) matching ((Mana of (Matching unit)) Greater than or equal to 1.00)) and do (Actions)
        • Loop - Actions
          • Unit - Remove Reduction Unholy Aura from (Picked unit)


Using Cripple and Dummy Unit to cast it.

Trigger:
  • Speed Trig2
    • Events
      • Time - Every 1.00 seconds of game time
    • Conditions
    • Actions
      • Unit Group - Pick every unit in (Units in (Playable map area) matching ((Mana of (Matching unit)) Less than 1.00)) and do (Actions)
        • Loop - Actions
          • Unit - Create 1 Dummy Caster for (Owner of (Picked unit)) at (Position of (Picked unit)) facing Default building facing degrees
          • Unit - Add a 2.00 second Generic expiration timer to (Last created unit)
          • Unit - Add Cripple to (Last created unit)
          • Unit - Order (Last created unit) to Undead Necromancer - Cripple (Picked unit)


Using channeling spell to constantly reduce the movement speed to non-static value (by i don't know how much, thats up to you).

One trigger to check:

Trigger:
  • Speed Trig3
    • Events
      • Time - Every 0.25 seconds of game time
    • Conditions
    • Actions
      • Unit Group - Pick every unit in (Units in (Playable map area) matching ((Mana of (Matching unit)) Less than 1.00)) and do (Actions)

          • Trigger - Run Speed Trig Channel <gen> (checking conditions)

    • Events
      • Time - Every 0.25 seconds of game time

    • Actions
      • Unit - Set (Triggering unit) movement speed to (Default movement speed of (Triggering unit))



Note to me and all here - these are just plain made in 10 seconds triggers. You will have to modify them as you please if you use them...

Those are horrible trigger examples, Sentrywiz. Triggering unit is an event response, and you don't use the event in half of the triggers. In addition, you leak a group handle every periodic event.

Make a skill based on "Slow Aura (Tornado)". This ability has no icon, and can be used to modify both attack and movement speed. Hold down shift when editing the data fields so you can enter negative values, and make the ability target only self. Then one single trigger will be sufficient to create your effect:
Trigger:
  • Periodic Trigger
    • Events
      • Time - Every 1.00 seconds of game time
    • Conditions
    • Actions
      • Set Temp_Group = (Units of type (Your Unit's Type))
      • Unit Group - Pick every unit in Temp_Group and do (Actions)
        • Loop - Actions
          • If (All Conditions are True) then do (Then Actions) else do (Else Actions)
            • If - Conditions
              • (Mana of (Picked unit)) Equal to 0.00
            • Then - Actions
              • Unit - Add Slow Aura (Tornado) to (Picked unit)
            • Else - Actions
              • Unit - Remove Slow Aura (Tornado) from (Picked unit)
      • Custom script: DestroyGroup( udg_Temp_Group )

Its not intended to be leakless fully modified sollution. I didn't spend that much time on all of those ideas.

Spells were like I said... PLAIN, it was the ideas I was making the triggers for.

    Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though

    I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work

    Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm

    So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man

    I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.

    Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
