Star Wars Footies? I think its an easy question.

Okay so I've been teaching my little brother how to make warcraft maps. He's getting there but his all time favorite map is Star Wars Footies By TheMoneyLover.

So my question is: If my brother has made contact with him on battle.net and he has asked about being able to continue the original creator's 2 year's dead map and the creator then stops talking to him altogether and won't answer, do you think it would be allowable for my brother to edit the creators map which is not protected at all to create new versions for the people who love it?

Sorry this may seem kind of pointless but your all mapmakers just like me and now my brother and I figured you would best represent a fellow map makers thoughts.

Any thoughts would be nice and as many as I can give rep to that reply will get rep.

Well if the guy didn't bother protecting his map, I don't see why not. Maybe he meant for people to expand upon it.

Possibly but why would he be okay with that and then just never respond when asked?

People love some of the maps they make, and dislike others. If he hasn't updated it in a while, he has most likely moved on. I think as long as your brother writes down that the original map was made by <person>, and is now edited by <your brother>, it should be okay. However, if the creater approaches him and tells him to stop, he should absolutely comply.

Well said Metaldrummer. I'll show him your post and he'll probably agree. I found another version made of the map that was just made to be all random so he probably doesn't care.

He probably quitted warcraft or something, some people don't stick to wc3.

Well wraithseeker we saw him on battle.net or at least we thought it was him. But he didn't seem to care about talking to us. All he seemed to care about was his LOAP game.

Did you check that he was not a namespoofer? I see many people impersonating mappers. Though if he didn't care, then that's his problem, you told him but he didn't care, so just go along with it

Hmmm I've never really tried a name spoofer. So it just makes your name appear as someone elses? This guy seemed pretty different from who I thought he would be. But either way we should be fine I suppose.

I think you are allowed:
Its 2 year since he made it, so he has dropped it
He hasnt protected it
It isnt copyrighted or trademarked in anyway..
Just remember to say who the origional author was

Wasn't the whole point of WC3 map editing that everyone could edit the maps to their own liking and such, meaning that if he has not bothered to protect it, I quess you are allowed to make your own version of it.
