Trackmania Forever won't let me play solo tracks due to lack of Steam friends.

Is this some kind of marketing strategy or something that forces consumers to make friends while playing a game?

This is really pissing me off only because of me living in a region where hardly any Steam players are around. Even if they are around, they are mostly either playing Counter Strike, or Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. And this game needs friends that are playing TrackMania Nations. :(

I was expecting myself to play (and enjoy the last bit of) TrackMania Nations Forever on my own for the entire game. When it said "Play Solo", it shouldn't expect me to have a requirement of a lot of friends in order to play.

What can I do?

And of course, TrackMania Nations Forever is Steam freeware.

Probably some weird Steam version.

I just downloaded from the Trackmania site. Why play through Steam? No silly requirements and the servers found through the Trackmania server are the best and most challenging.

I'm just playing Solo, where there are 15 tracks per flag. There are 5 flags, each color represents its difficulty. I'm just trying to beat each gold medal racers in all of the tracks. My interest is only that. The servers are a bit hard for me to grasp. :p

Sounds related to if you just downloaded it from their website. Are only specific courses limited because you don't have enough friends, or are they whole flags (can't access black, red, etc.)? In the regular version from Nadeo, there are certain requirements to play certain tracks, however they are overridden if you play offline (disconnect the internet).

Whole flags are affected. And do you mean, I must play TrackMania online?

Well, that stinks.

Are you able to play Trackmania offline (internet disconnected), or do you have to be connected to the Steam network to play at all?

What I meant was this: with the original client, if I disconnect from my internet completely, I have all courses on Trackmania fully unlocked and free to play with no requirements (no medal req's, nothin). However, if I connect to the internet and wish to play single player, some courses will have requirements (medals, 3-5 friend req's).

Checked again, and it's what you've said at the bottom of your post.

I am able to play TrackMania offline. With and without Steam intervention.

And it looks like it fixed my problem up pretty much if I didn't connect to TrackMania servers, whether my Steam client is online or not.

Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
