Why doesn't the water spread (newbie terraining)

I'm trying to expand a lake by making it run out into a river. I've used shallow water terrain as the base and heightened it where I needed flat ground. Now though, the water won't come back when I lower the ground again.

Anyone know what the problem is?

I don't think you can lower or raise water?

Isn't it just shallow or deep water to choose from, not heights. Otherwise you could create the unrealistic scenario of water running upstreams (which would be awesome btw)

Yes, but I can raise and lower land. When I started doing the terrain, I had created a map like this:
Code:
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
_______________________
(Ground = _ / \, water = ^)

Then I raised the ground on some places, so it looked like this:

Code:
     _____ _____
^^^^/ \^^^^^^^^/
___/ \_____/
And now, when I lower it again, it looks like this:
Code:
                       ______
^^^ ^^^^^^^^/
____________________/
with just a gap where there should be water.

But if the water doesn't come back by itself, can't you just place new water?

Water gets really messy. I was experimenting with it a while ago. Once the WE decides it doesn't want you to have water somewhere, you don't get it.

Try MagnaGuard's solution.

Water is buggy, just use waterfalls and path blockers
Can't do that, since it should be a full stream and it should be followable quite far.

Advanced > Enforce water height limits (make sure it isn't marked). Then try again
Tried it now, but it wouldn't work :/

Nope, won't work. It looks darn ugly and has to be done with cliffs. :(

Yes, it seems like that.

Now, when I try to put cliff-water in the place, it just creates like an upside down pyramid of water falling down into the hole. It looks really wierd. Maybe it could have been cool for some demonic lava world, but not this sunshiny place :(

You can angle waterfalls to low z-value to make it look like downhill rapids.

Yeah, I know, with a big focus on RAPID. :) Unfortunately it's not what I want at the time, but thanks anyway.

Thanks to all who tried to solve this, but I'll have to let that river go.

You can make the rivers slower by making their Y scale lower than their X scale

Copy the water (Click down and drag then control C) then paste it (control v). This is what i do when water becomes silly.
