windows question

if i need to repair windows xp home
system files and i dont have the original windows disc,
will i be able to do it with another copy of windows xp home edition?

i know this seems simple but i dont wanna buy another copy of xp and it turns out i cant use it to fix the files on the computer i need too.

and should it work with the product key on the computer that needs to be repaired or will i have to use the one i buy with the disk?

Put in the CD (another Windows XP Disc) and boot up from it. Then chose to repair the current install. Do Not format!
