Well obviously someone is buying this for you.

Anyways would be better to build your own.

I will be buying it myself (nice job, no bills :p), and I put it together on Alienware's site.

Could I really build something like this any cheaper?

If you are from UK/Ireland, you could try this (it's £2551, or $5119). I don't know if it's possible for this company to deliver to anywhere else.

I didn't look over your whole specification so I don't know what is better/worse.

Graphics Processor: 1GB ATI® Radeon™ HD 3870 X2 – Dual GPU Technology
Motherboard: Alienware® Approved NVIDIA® nForce® 790i Ultra SLI™ Motherboard

Would they be compatible with each other? I'm not really very knowledgeable around computers, so if I'm wrong, let me know :)

Also, have fun having enough that kind of cash for a PC :p

Chances are that it won't be very impressive when you decide to buy it. :p
Not sure how this would pay off. Well, you could play Crysis I guess, but other than that there isn't much of a point as opposed to buying a much cheaper (>$1000) PC with not much worse performance and updating it every now and then.

Well, I found that you can make payments on it (about $200 a month for everything listed, including the monitor and speakers). I'll be making around $530 a week, and with no bills to pay. Affording it will be cake.

It looks like a nice computer. I know that as soon as you buy a "new" computer, it's already pretty much outdated, but I think it'll do just fine for quite a while.

That and I want to spoil myself a little bit

What a waste of money. Alienware is a joke, you can build a computer 5x better for half the price.

Wow dude wtf? I have a nice ass computer I got off of newegg. The only thing that is required is $700-$800 max if you dont have a video card and HD already, and knowledge of how to put a computer together.

I've been running a 1998 without updating it and i don't have any problems haha.

ALienware is the biggest ripp off ever. They sell high prices because they know people like you love their Brand Name and will sell things for $100 more than you can get else where and build it yourself.

Same as Merc, my computer would own that one in a heartbeat, and I paid about $800 ( with a HDD I already had ) for it on newegg...

What a waste of money. Alienware is a joke, you can build a computer 5x better for half the price.

Yeah Alienware is for the computer blind... No offense but yeah. I could build that computer for around 1,700 US Dollars.

Don't forget: you'd better take a little order ultimate graphics card then a budget newer one of the same price. But with a budget of over 5k bucks, You can easily buy 2 new ultimate cards ;) (crossfire/SLI) works real nice.

EDIT: Not even a G9?

Don't forget he is paying monthly so the budget is not 5,000. More of x per month.

News portal has been retired. Main page of site goes to Headline News forum now
  • The Helper The Helper:
I am working on getting access to the old news portal under a different URL for those that would rather use that for news before we get a different news view.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Easily done
    +1
  • The Helper The Helper:
https://www.thehelper.net/pages/news/ is a link to the old news portal - i will integrate it into the interface somewhere when i figure it out
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Need to try something
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hopefully this won't cause problems.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hmm
  • Ghan Ghan:
I have converted the Headline News forum to an Article type forum. It will now show the top 20 threads with more detail of each thread.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    See how we like that.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do not see a way to go past the 1st page of posts on the forum though
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is OK though for the main page to open up on the forum in the view it was before. As long as the portal has its own URL so it can be viewed that way I do want to try it as a regular forum view for a while
  • Ghan Ghan:
Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is with the pagination.
  • Ghan Ghan:
It SHOULD be there so I think it might just be an artifact of having an older style.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I switched it to a "Standard" article forum. This will show the thread list like normal, but the threads themselves will have the first post set up above the rest of the "comments"
  • The Helper The Helper:
I don't really get that article forum but I think it is because I have never really seen it used on a multi post thread
  • Ghan Ghan:
RpNation makes more use of it right now as an example: https://www.rpnation.com/news/
