After a certain amount of time without logging in, your rep decays away, eventually receiving 0. Past that, I'm not sure if anything happens.

I doubt it. Maybe TH gets rid of people who haven't been here for YEARS at a time, but if you're going to be gone for years, why bother signing up? :p

If you look at the last page of the WE forum, you will see many guests posting (almost all guests). I am guesing they were members, but haven't logged on/posted in 3 years or so.

3 yrs!!! :banghead: :banghead: still here :banghead:

I prune the Members List every couple of years. This involves pressing a button and the forum goes through and deletes members who have not logged in 2 years or whatever I tell it to check by.

Special Members, the members with custom text under there Avatar lose reputation due to decay if they dont log in for a few months. After a while, lets say 3 months or so if they have not logged in they become regular members again.

Members are only deleted as part of a forum database cleanup done every couple of years.

So the answer to your question is if you don't log on for a few years you might have to make a new account.

Actually, a lot of them are Google spiders and the like.

Sargon is right. The guest you see trying to post are the Search Engines spiders crawling the forum. They will go to the Post screen but they will not post. I could stop them from doing that with a robots.txt file but what the hell - gives them something to do - LOL.

Oh, those are probably people finding posts on the Search Engines. They have never been to the forum they just find a post on the Search Engines and reply to it, never checking the date to see if it is a 2 year old topic - its new to them you know :)

well... i did something like that ( 3 times maybe) reply without checking the date :D

News portal has been retired. Main page of site goes to Headline News forum now
  • The Helper The Helper:
I am working on getting access to the old news portal under a different URL for those that would rather use that for news before we get a different news view.

    Easily done

https://www.thehelper.net/pages/news/ is a link to the old news portal - i will integrate it into the interface somewhere when i figure it out
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Need to try something
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hopefully this won't cause problems.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hmm
  • Ghan Ghan:
I have converted the Headline News forum to an Article type forum. It will now show the top 20 threads with more detail of each thread.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    See how we like that.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do not see a way to go past the 1st page of posts on the forum though
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is OK though for the main page to open up on the forum in the view it was before. As long as the portal has its own URL so it can be viewed that way I do want to try it as a regular forum view for a while
  • Ghan Ghan:
Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is with the pagination.
  • Ghan Ghan:
It SHOULD be there so I think it might just be an artifact of having an older style.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I switched it to a "Standard" article forum. This will show the thread list like normal, but the threads themselves will have the first post set up above the rest of the "comments"
  • The Helper The Helper:
I don't really get that article forum but I think it is because I have never really seen it used on a multi post thread
  • Ghan Ghan:
RpNation makes more use of it right now as an example: https://www.rpnation.com/news/
