Doesn't seem like a joke to me. The legitimacy of the 4chanstatus blog has been verified, and the 4chan servers (naturally, not the DNS) all redirect to it. There has been an IRC QnA session, where the hackers claim to be working on an improved 4chan.

Maybe not. 4chan refugees will need a place to go, and the "improved" 4chan will probably be worse.
