yep Mind wins the prize, but let me just iterate that the process is very arduous. There are some 400-500 doodads per wall section making up a total of close to 2000 doodads for the entire wall. And adjusting doodad heights is very tricky unfortunately, copy+paste does not preserve the elevation height of a doodad, so I had to set every single row of bricks individually.
Plus there are the problems with pathing too. If I want to have units on the wall, the setup of the units totally depends on whether I choose to have pathing or no pathing for the bricks.
The reason I did this whole thing in the first place will sorta come clear later on when I develop the map a bit further. I guess some might say it is a LotR helms deep rip-off, but I assure you I had this idea in my head well before I saw the two towers.
hehe I forgot I ever posted this, I'm usually mum about what I'm working on....
....but just to go against my convention and give you guys a quick update.....
that wall design doesn't work because putting that many destructibles in that little space makes the map lag so much its barely playable even when there are little to no units on the screen.
It looks awesome, but its simply not practical in the context of a multiplayer map, so I had to scale it down significantly. And I had to change the destructibles back to regular old doodads too.
@ Rinpun: it would be nice if I could do that, but I specifically wanted that many bricks because the wall was supposed to be destructible. Just imagine catapults firing boulders from a distance and carving out holes in the wall, while your archers try and keep the high ground to stop the enemy troops from breaching the front gates.
It was a lot of fun watching it I can guarantee you! But simply not practical....
Anyway here's a screenshot from the latest build to keep you all amused. There are around 800-900 doodads making up the wall now (doodads, not destructibles). It's not as nice, but at least it's practical.
Like I was telling Ryoko privately, I stopped working on this awhile ago because I grew impatient with my nearly 5 year old computer. When I get my new comp, work will start up again.
1. I want an area of my castle to look like that. I'll send you some screen shot emails for your advice.
2. I can help you fix that. PM me whatever doodad / texture your using, the size (cliffs are 128x128x128 blocks, so calculate it out) and I will model a larger block for you to use.
Check out my 'wanna contribute to a map?' thread. There you can see the cliffs and doodads I've modeled.
What did you use for those towers? I will post in the loung some privy screen shots.
Um, Rinpun? The only things I see that even RESEMBLE towers would be the Naga(?) Altars. Not towers. Though, they do sort of look like towers, don't they? Easy to mistake.
...Torch...doodad? Pardon me, but I don't recall there being a torch that looks like that. It's a freakin Earth Fury Tower model or something of the sort.
Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.
@tom_mai78101 I must be blind. If I go on my profile I don't see any area to edit the signature; If I go to account details (settings) I don't see any signature area either.
You can get there if you click the bell icon (alerts) and choose preferences from the bottom, signature will be in the menu on the left there https://www.thehelper.net/account/preferences
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
