Haha I was just reading a new system that SOASE (Sins of a solar empire) is employing called Alloy, and what it does is let you host without configuring your router or anything! I thought it was really neat and that if battle.net could take advantage of this system it would open a shitload of doors for them. Modding kept WC3 alive with casual gamers and i'm assuming it'll do the same for SC2, and imagine if EVERYONE could host. It would be amazing!

Hmm, i wounder how it works.

When i was going to collage in idaho at byui.

There was alot of firewalls. Anyway by the time i got around them, it would run slow.

In other words i wounder how much it effects the host speed.
If its a work around then i may slow it down.
 
Command and Conquer games don't require ports either.

I guess it's just bLizZaRd.

I know that all of this happens already, but I'm sure allowing everyone to host would make it much worse. As far as I'm concerned, the people most likely to be good hosts are the ones who are able to configure their routers and/or firewalls to allow hosting.
 
Oh, so thats why most of the games are DotA. Only smart people can play. xD
 
I'd still prefer the mass of DotA games to what things would presumably be like were everyone able to host. I can imagine every other map besides DotA would be completely displaced.

It's a cool idea (I was able to host before on my old connection, but I can't seem to get it working on my current one :() but I think TheDamien has pointed out most problems that arise, although he did forget (the occasional)
"JOIN AL NO CANCERZ"

Even though, there might be a week or two of safety (at the max :p) until the sh*t maps are, inevitably, hosted... :(
 
Lmao, well i'm sure Blizzard realizes this knowing what a big ass fan base they have, and will probably refine the search enngine so we can avoid teh noobs ;)
 
Not to off... but as much as i agree being first is important, and i am dont gona debate whos the best game like dota. but alot of it comes from how good its done, and there really arnt that many games as well done as dota.

But it would never have got there if people didnt support it. meaning the maker would have just stopped working on it.

But being first isnt the only thing that matters, is all i am saying :)

Solved by a better game list and better browsing...with map filters :eek:

I find the WC3 one very annoying.

With the new editor, Dota would possibly be surpassed. Depends on the creative minds of us mappers ;)
 
IceFrog will probably release a SC2 DotA ASAP.

We need to get the best coding minds that we to make something epic, that could rival DotA.

I'm thinking a campaign. I love making campaigns. But actually, online gaming is more popular. :(
 
Paffoot. I'm going to bring back a classic: Bounds. I remember the ownage days in like.... long time ago when played SC I still did. Level Up Bound? Twisted Bound? Bubble Bound? Illusion Bound 2? (Twas my favorite.) Screw siege tanks shooting at terrain, I'ma use create - kill unit >=O It looks better too than just a retarded tank shooting at a random place hoping to kill you ^_^

    It is OK though for the main page to open up on the forum in the view it was before. As long as the portal has its own URL so it can be viewed that way I do want to try it as a regular forum view for a while
