So, im on Chrome and just today. A few things happened

1. I was disconnected from my wireless after i turned on my laptop (which was on standby) and i had to use my WEP to re-connect (i usually dont have to, it usually just logs on by itself) So i got my internet running again and...

2. My browser (Chrome) is no longer saving cookies. I cant use gmail since i lose my signed-in status due to cookies no longer being saved. And i get logged out of thehelper if i change web pages.

Trouble Shooting:

I installed the newest version of Chrome (Chrome doesnt update by itself so i had to go to www.google.com/chrome and download whatever version was up.

I also went to "Tools". "Options". "Under the Hood" and set the cookies to enable. That didnt work. so i just set everything to default. Still doesnt work.

Any help?

Try another browser and see if it works. If so, then it's something with Chrome, perhaps theres an option to clear all data? Not sure if it exists, I don't run chrome.

Does it let you log in to places and stuff like that, but deletes the cookies when you restart?

kinda. I can log on to thehelper, then i log off if i change pages.

for google i cant log in at all

and for another forum, i cant log in at all

im using firefox right now, but it isnt working

When i log onto gmail. it goes into an endless redirect that goes back to the same redirect page.

Try reinstalling, something might have happened with both the browsers. While it sounds like it wouldn't happen, it doesn't take long to reinstall, so it can't hurt to try. :p

Perhaps it's something to do with your windows temporary files folder ( TEMP Folder ). Did you change any settings, or perhaps install anything new?

i dont think its just me. none of the computers that are connected to my house's can save cookies

...Did you explain what you need them for?

My dad isnt stupid he has several degrees in computer and he sets up the internet for his clients. Im not sure why he doesnt think cookies are important >.>

Btw. im using a linksys router. I asked my dad why our cookies didnt work, and he said he changed the ID.

If he has degrees in computer courses, he should know you've pretty much crippled your internet...

this is wierd. im pretty sure cookies are the files your computer saves, and i keep logging off which implies my cookies are not saving. however.

CCleaner registered and cleared out 1.6GBs of cookies and other stuff (most of it was cookies)
Saving a password is considered a cookie (it should be) and firefox saves my username and password. i just log off. even with "Remember me" on.

News portal has been retired. Main page of site goes to Headline News forum now
  • The Helper The Helper:
I am working on getting access to the old news portal under a different URL for those that would rather use that for news before we get a different news view.

    Easily done

https://www.thehelper.net/pages/news/ is a link to the old news portal - i will integrate it into the interface somewhere when i figure it out

    Need to try something
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hopefully this won't cause problems.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hmm
  • Ghan Ghan:
I have converted the Headline News forum to an Article type forum. It will now show the top 20 threads with more detail of each thread.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    See how we like that.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do not see a way to go past the 1st page of posts on the forum though
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is OK though for the main page to open up on the forum in the view it was before. As long as the portal has its own URL so it can be viewed that way I do want to try it as a regular forum view for a while
  • Ghan Ghan:
Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is with the pagination.
  • Ghan Ghan:
It SHOULD be there so I think it might just be an artifact of having an older style.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I switched it to a "Standard" article forum. This will show the thread list like normal, but the threads themselves will have the first post set up above the rest of the "comments"
  • The Helper The Helper:
I don't really get that article forum but I think it is because I have never really seen it used on a multi post thread
  • Ghan Ghan:
RpNation makes more use of it right now as an example: https://www.rpnation.com/news/
