Dallas police wrongly ticketed at least 39 drivers for not speaking English over the last three years, Police Chief David Kunkle announced Friday while promising to investigate all officers involved in the cases for dereliction of duty.

Pending cases will be dismissed, and those who paid the $204 fine for the charge, which does not exist in the city, will be reimbursed, Kunkle said.

"I was surprised and stunned that that would happen, particularly in the city of Dallas," Kunkle said. "In my world, you would never tell someone not to speak Spanish."

The citations were issued in several different patrol divisions by at least six different officers. One of those officers was responsible for five of the citations, Kunkle said.

More here.

Its not -.-

He was stunned that something like that would happen. For example

He wanted to teach his students that that they could become better people.

>>He wanted to teach his students that that they could become better people.

Your example is incorrect, but the article isn't a mistake.

Anyway, back to the article now...

I personally agree with giving tickets like that. If you're in America then learn to speak the language. If you don't know the language then start learning it, don't drive to you understand it. How could you read traffic signs?

The U.S.A. doesn't have a national language.

You really think that? Just because California's don't speak English doesn't mean it's not pretty obvious what the national language is; even if it isn't officially declared.

Obviously English is a nationally spoken language. I was only stating that because it was never officially declared, so there's no way to be fined for driving and not speaking English.

Nice job on the department's part for at least rectifying the mistake

Those cops are dicks, but at least they didn't tase the people :p

You should see some of the stuff I've been pulled over for on my bikes...

But yes, I agree with making the national language English...

News portal has been retired. Main page of site goes to Headline News forum now
  • The Helper The Helper:
I am working on getting access to the old news portal under a different URL for those that would rather use that for news before we get a different news view.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Easily done

https://www.thehelper.net/pages/news/ is a link to the old news portal - i will integrate it into the interface somewhere when i figure it out
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Need to try something
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hopefully this won't cause problems.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hmm
  • Ghan Ghan:
I have converted the Headline News forum to an Article type forum. It will now show the top 20 threads with more detail of each thread.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    See how we like that.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do not see a way to go past the 1st page of posts on the forum though
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is OK though for the main page to open up on the forum in the view it was before. As long as the portal has its own URL so it can be viewed that way I do want to try it as a regular forum view for a while
  • Ghan Ghan:
Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is with the pagination.
  • Ghan Ghan:
It SHOULD be there so I think it might just be an artifact of having an older style.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I switched it to a "Standard" article forum. This will show the thread list like normal, but the threads themselves will have the first post set up above the rest of the "comments"
  • The Helper The Helper:
I don't really get that article forum but I think it is because I have never really seen it used on a multi post thread
  • Ghan Ghan:
RpNation makes more use of it right now as an example: https://www.rpnation.com/news/
