How to detect what chat type the player is using?
For example if they are using [Allies] or [All] or [observers].. etc

I think its pretty much impossible?
But i'll really like to know if anyone has any ideas.

Eh, don't think it's possible.

However, I've seen in Parasite 2 where anything you type is deleted and re-entered as a message set to all players or, if a modifier is added to the beginning of the message, players of a group labeled "Private". Another group labeled "Allies" could be implemented as well.

In Defiance's ORPG chat entered is made into floating text over a player's hero's head. Probably less useful compared to above but is kinda neat, works better when in observer chat to prevent other players seeing the same message twice.

Please don't ask me how to do either of these as I myself don't know.

If by the slightest chance that you could detect chat type I'd guarantee GUI being useless.
