Digital Audio Problem

I've been e-mailing creative back and fourth for weeks trying to determine what is causing this problem ive been having, so here is what I have:

Creative Audigy 2 Platinum ZS (with internal drivebay)
Pioneer VSX-1014TX Stereo Reciever
12' TOSLINK Fibre Optic cable

The fibre optic cable connects from the S/PDIF output on the Creative Audigy 2 Drivebay, to the digital input on my Pioneer VSX1014.

The problem is that no matter what I do, I cant seem to playback surround sound formats through my VSX1014. No matter what I do, I can only get stereo output.
I was told that DVD movies are the only thing that will work in surround sound because they are encoded in AC3 and I should be able to get 5.1 surround but Im not!

so here is my question,
Is my creative audigy 2 zs platnium malfunctioniong, and only able to output stereo format?

or is my VSX1014 malfunctioning and unable to decode anything other than stereo format?

Is there anyway to test and rule out either one?

Also, I tried playing a DVD in the sound format "A/52 over S/PDIF" once in that mode my stereo switched modes and displayed "DIAL.NORM +4" but all the audio I could hear kept skipping and repeating. Is that because my stereo might be able to decode that digital format or is it because my audigy isnt encoding it properly ?

Argh!!! Frustrating.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!!

is your receiver model "Pioneer VSX-1014TX" or "Pioneer VSX-1014TX-K"? The "-K" model is a 6.1 THX certified surround receiver, but maybe that's not your exact model....

I have the same problem, and I have found a solution.

In the original settings the hardware decoder on the Audigy sends a Multi-Spdif-Signal via der Optical link, your external decoder can only read the first stream and sets to stereo. To have your audigy sends a 5.1 stream to your decoder you have to deactivate the hardware-decoder on the audigy.

You have to search for the control-planel in the audigy-subfolder where you installed the audigy software. Double-Click on it and set your Hardware-Decoder to "Bypass". This should help.

2 Days of searching, I thought I could dump the soundcard. Now I'm glad it works.

Please excuse my bad english
