Football Manager 2008 runs fine on my pc but it wont seem to run in non-fullscreen mode. It switches, and I can see it and it looks great but an error window appears saying cannot switch, make sure my pc is compatible with this mode.

I fiddled with my screen resolution and whacked it up to max of 2048x1536 and it worked, but obviously the resolution knocked everything out of sync.

So I was thinking maybe my screen resolution is too small? I'm running at 1280x800 (widescreen laptop).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Try setting your screen resolution to

1280 x 1024

You have a widescreen laptop so that should not be a problem. Make sure you have the absolute latest drivers for your laptop video card. Even if the computer is new that does not mean you have the latest drivers. Check your laptop manufacturer or Graphics card manufacturer to see if there have been any patches or updates.

Also, make sure you have the latest version of your game - have you installed the latest patch?

Thanks for your reply. I do have the latest game patch and graphics drivers. So you don't think that the physical screen size could be the issue?

Did you try setting the resolution to what I suggested in the previous post -

1280 x 1024

I did some Internet research on problems with the video and that is the mode you should use to be in the default I believe.

Yes, if your physical screen size or some hardware limitation keeps you from getting into an optimal video mode you could have this problem.

News portal has been retired. Main page of site goes to Headline News forum now
  • The Helper The Helper:
I am working on getting access to the old news portal under a different URL for those that would rather use that for news before we get a different news view.

https://www.thehelper.net/pages/news/ is a link to the old news portal - i will integrate it into the interface somewhere when i figure it out

    Need to try something

    Hopefully this won't cause problems.

    Hmm
  • Ghan Ghan:
I have converted the Headline News forum to an Article type forum. It will now show the top 20 threads with more detail of each thread.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    See how we like that.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do not see a way to go past the 1st page of posts on the forum though
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is OK though for the main page to open up on the forum in the view it was before. As long as the portal has its own URL so it can be viewed that way I do want to try it as a regular forum view for a while
  • Ghan Ghan:
Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is with the pagination.
  • Ghan Ghan:
It SHOULD be there so I think it might just be an artifact of having an older style.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I switched it to a "Standard" article forum. This will show the thread list like normal, but the threads themselves will have the first post set up above the rest of the "comments"
  • The Helper The Helper:
I don't really get that article forum but I think it is because I have never really seen it used on a multi post thread
  • Ghan Ghan:
RpNation makes more use of it right now as an example: https://www.rpnation.com/news/
