Prime Minister Stephen Harper will meet with U.S. President Barack Obama in Washington on Friday, the Prime Minister's Office announced Tuesday.
Dimitri Soudas, communications director for the prime minister, said on Twitter Tuesday afternoon that the two would meet on Feb. 4.
Soudas wrote that the two would discuss "the important bilateral relationship" between the two countries.
That will likely include topics such as bilateral trade and security. A senior government official, who spoke to The Canadian Press on background, said one item on the agenda will be deciding the next steps in the Clean Energy dialogue. The conversation will continue talks on a bilateral climate strategy the two men started in Ottawa in 2009.
A possible perimeter-security agreement between the two countries that would attempt to strengthen border security without hindering trade or traffic may also be on the agenda.

"Will he confirm that these negotiations are underway, will he confirm that's what he is going to talk to President Obama about, and will he commit to this House to bring this deal back to the House for an open debate before he surrenders Canadian sovereignty?"
It's statements like that which make me hate Ignatieff. *Note to self don't vote Liberal*
