I remember there was a Hosting on Warcraft tutorial somewhere, but I cant find it.
Since A lot people can't host, I will teach you how to configure firewalls.
1. What really blocks you from hosting?
Your computer has such thing as firewall what blocks incoming connections. Routers also have this so called firewall. I will teach you how to configure windows firewall and even router firewalls.
Windows Firewall
So, first if you want to host you need to add 2 port exceptions (And if you don't have war3 aplication in exceptions you must add it too).
We first push "Start" button. Going to Settings -> Control Panel. Now see picture below.
That is Windows Firewall Aplication. Double-click it/open it. Go to "Exceptions" and then you have to add 2 ports. Press "Add Port" button. In "Name" window write anything example "Wc3 UDP Port". Then write in Port window your Wc3 port. If you haven't changed or touched Wc3 Port in In-Game menu options, then just type 6112. Then set it as "UDP" and press OK. Then again Add another port, do exactly same, "Name" can be typed again what name you wish, example "Wc3 TCP port". So yes, do exactly same, but set it to TCP this time and press OK. Now you should be able to host.
If it still doesn't work, then you either have Router or some problems with connection. If you have router follow next instructions in "Router Firewall". Note: If you have router, DON'T skip this. You need both firewalls configured.
Router's Firewall
Important Note: Whenever you are resetting router, Ports what you have configured can be lost and they must be reconfigured.
Now about Routers...
In this part we will forward ports so your router allows people to join your games aka port forwarding. You can learn more from Port Forward.
As you can see in this picture...
IP Adress - Is your local machine's IP adress.
Default Gateway - Is your Routers IP adress.
Now what we gonna do is to open your Internet browser (Mozzila, Explorer and etc.) AND type Default Gateway IP as adress without any www. or .com.
After that window will be prompted requesting password and username. If router is set to default then there are few usual ways: 1. Username is left to be empty and password is "admin" (without the "") 2. Username is "admin" (without "") and password is left to be empty. If you don't know your default routers password, then google it writing your routers type. Now if that doesn't work, there is a password and possible username. To get in routers page, check your routers box behind and there must be very very little button "Reset". Take a pen or something, push AND HOLD reset button for 3-4 secs, while in page where that Username, pass is requested. NOTE: IF YOU HAVE WIRELESS CONNECTIONS, YOU MUST RECONNECT THEM AFTER DOING RESETTING!!! Then wait till all internet goes online again. And THEN type default pass and username. Usually as I said, leave username blank and type "admin" (without the "") as password. And there you must go. This is example of my Linksys WRT54G router.
Now you see I have already jumped to Aplications & Games or might be called different for different routers. Anyway different routers should have similiar port config as this. Now the last steps. As from start your "IP Adress" of local machine has meaning into this. You see that .100 after 192.168.1? That number is used for your ports. It is also used for multiple machines. Anyway type the number what comes after that 192.168.1. into "IP Address window" into router. Now as I said, if you haven't touched Warcraft3 Ports then type 6112 in "Start" window and in "End" window, IF you have touched it, then go to War3 Main menu -> Options -> Network Settings and check "Port" window and type that port what is in that Warcraft 3 Network Setting Port window into "Start" and "End" window into Router. Protocol is Both. But if your router doesn't have such function as Both, then just like in Windows firewall create exactly same ports but one is UDP and other one is TCP. Then Press Enable. Save changes AND Voila! You can now host with Router!
