Is Gear Score annoying to you?

How does it make it impossible?

If you're on one of those realms with stupid GearScore expectations ("LFM ICC10 5.5k GS needed!"), then it's (practically) impossible unless you spend months gathering Emblem of Frost gear, or resort to using PvP gear to inflate the number (which'd probably earn you a swift /kick :p)

Personally, I've never had an issue with getting into GearScore PUG's for the most part (since a number of the raid leaders have more reasonable GS requirements), but I don't like it when various people (whether they are raid-leading, or not) immediately assume that higher GearScore makes for a better player ("lololol, these 245 Emblem trinkets will give me l33t gs, regardless of whether or not they are useful!!!!111")

You can change this now in User CP.

Well gear score does give a certain guideline to wether or you meet the requirments, for example, if you have 4000 gear score don't expect to go to ICC unless your gettin run through it by guildies or something but generally if someone's forming a pug, they want members to be able to pull their own weight and you really can't judge someone you don't know with anything other than their gearscore and maybe achievements. :p

It was annoying pre-GS not knowing whether a player even had decent gear. I'll admit that players that follow strict GS requirements can be a bit unrealistic, but it's better than nothing.

Also, don't forget that PUG'ing almost any instance pre-WotLK was near impossible in the first place, except for the entry level ones (unless you had a realm that was full of high level guilds).

There are many players that would agree with me that it's pretty easy to get gear in WotLK, which makes GS a much more trivial thing compared to previous expansions:

You can purchase gear
You can join the Dungeon Finder and find regular/heroic 5-mans for gear (without the hassle of actually putting together a group)
You can form/join a raid for VoA and have a chance of getting a really good epic

All are much preferred options to what was available pre-BC and in BC: Join a guild and raid.

Yes, 5500 GS requirement is overkill. However, it does make things run smoothly, considering even the terrible players they pick up will still be able to easily do the damage needed to one-shot every boss.

We're really not that interested in trying to shut mods like this down. Players will always have the Armory and to a lesser extent Inspect with which to judge other players.

It's not an easy problem to solve. On the one hand, we can recognize that there is value in being able to determine if that guy you are considering for your pug is much less experienced and talented than he claims to be and is going to drag everyone else down and cause other players to leave. On the other hand, the WoW community seems to have become so obsessed with efficiency and so adverse to wiping that there is, in my opinion, an unreasonable demand for player skill and gear requirements even for relatively easy content. It's one thing if your VoA tank is in all blues. It's another if you're asking for Ulduar gear for your Naxx run.

Many players are perfectly reasonable. However we've all run into That Guy who takes any attempt at measuring his awesomeness in the game (gearscore, achievements, dps meters) way too seriously and looks for the same in others.

No, guild raiding is the opposite. PUG'ing is raiding with people you find on the trade channel for example.

Hmm, how do I change my signature?

Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

@tom_mai78101 I must be blind. If I go on my profile I don't see any area to edit the signature; If I go to account details (settings) I don't see any signature area either.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
