I am using this as an example for a class presentation. Feel free to vote and post your opinion.

You fail to give us criteria as mentioned in your last thread...

Yes and no..........

I said this was an example for a reason, tyvm. I'm glad you understand the topic of my presentation: What's Wrong With Online Voting?

I don't see how anyone could logically vote "no, online voting is bad" in an online poll.

Vote for a reason? That's still not close to specific. Please explain better...

I agree with the irony.

I'm doing a presentation, for my class, about what's wrong with online voting. One thing is that it often yields a convenient bias.

Example:
--------------
A poll is added to an anti-abortion group's website that asks, "Is it right for a
woman to get an abortion?" The only two options are "Yes" and "No."

The poll claims that it yields evidence that a majority of people in the world
believe that abortion is not right.
--------------
This is obviously biased because of where it is located on the web. What if they made it so that only members of the website could vote? It is deceptive.

I plan to ask my classmates to go to this website and vote. I'm certain that most, if not all are not members. Making it inconvenient for them to vote.

Okay, I misunderstood.

I figure there's some bias, yes, because the voter has to have some sort of motivation to go to the website in the first place to vote. I guess you could argue that polls which take place on websites which require signing up would be better because those who actually do vote in it would likely be more knowledgeable about the subject.

There could also be some cheating. Mis-representation and interpretation of polls are very common as well. Your 'test-subjects' could also be biased. You'd get different results on different things if people from a Church/Congregation voted online, than non-church people. It depends greatly on who you're polling.

Thanks for understanding. My classmates seemed to get the idea as soon as they saw that they needed to log in to vote.

It's also biased to hold a poll in west virgina, whats the difference?

Of all the issues with online voting, you pick that problem? What about hacking, bots, click fraud, etc.

I don't see how anyone could logically vote "no, online voting is bad" in an online poll.
Trolling.

EDIT: This poll is biased as it elaborates on 'No'. I would personally say online voting is horrific, not terrible.

I don't see how anyone could logically vote "no, online voting is bad" in an online poll.

Because it obviously is bad. People can create multiple accounts and vote on the same item. You don't know who's voting because the internet is anonymous and as mentioned hacking is also an issue.

I think the question that should be asked is, "Is online voting reliable?"
In that case, I say no. At least not entirely.

Oh, I mentioned a lot of other things wrong with online voting, but I was using this as an example of only one thing.

It should depend on controllable factors, and if those circumstances make voters feel that they are confortable with it, then it's good for them to cast a vote.

Sorry for being late.

I appreciate the irony of this thread.

News portal has been retired. Main page of site goes to Headline News forum now
  • The Helper The Helper:
I am working on getting access to the old news portal under a different URL for those that would rather use that for news before we get a different news view.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Easily done

  • The Helper The Helper:
https://www.thehelper.net/pages/news/ is a link to the old news portal - i will integrate it into the interface somewhere when i figure it out
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Need to try something
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hopefully this won't cause problems.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hmm
  • Ghan Ghan:
I have converted the Headline News forum to an Article type forum. It will now show the top 20 threads with more detail of each thread.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    See how we like that.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do not see a way to go past the 1st page of posts on the forum though
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is OK though for the main page to open up on the forum in the view it was before. As long as the portal has its own URL so it can be viewed that way I do want to try it as a regular forum view for a while
  • Ghan Ghan:
Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is with the pagination.
  • Ghan Ghan:
It SHOULD be there so I think it might just be an artifact of having an older style.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I switched it to a "Standard" article forum. This will show the thread list like normal, but the threads themselves will have the first post set up above the rest of the "comments"
  • The Helper The Helper:
I don't really get that article forum but I think it is because I have never really seen it used on a multi post thread
  • Ghan Ghan:
RpNation makes more use of it right now as an example: https://www.rpnation.com/news/
