Here be my movie ticket for an IT assignment ["Display" work, pfft]:

I've removed the school logo and the name.

I also need to have one more picture as a requirement, can be any that fits. Thinking if it looks good currently, info can't be changed.

The logo use to be where the yellow tint was.

Critiques? It's actually meant to be done during my class time but you know

I feel it needs some kind of "theme." What's the feeling you're trying to portray? Since it's a movie ticket, I assume it's "fun" and "relaxing." If so, don't use Serif fonts. They're too formal and "business-like" for this.

Try to come up with a colour theme. The combination of colours is ... ugly, especially the red, yellow, and cyan combination.

My IT teacher IS rather incompetant, so I don't think I need to do very good and i'll still get a good mark.

And uhm. I am not really trying to theme anything, teacher just gave us sheet with image, and said. DESIGN NAO. Literally.

Shouldn't movie tickets just be... ticket information?
Tickets don't need to look nice, :D

I feel it's too empty. Too much empty, black space.
Try to fill them up with something. Or perhaps reduce the size of the ticket and cram everything closely.

The font used is a little uninteresting. Some other fonts, maybe?

Background, perhaps? Reduce the transparency and overlap the whole ticket.
Depending on the type of picture though.

Now that I'm serious.
I find that black isn't too good of a ticket color, shrug.
Try to keep it simple. It can look nice with good designs, but don't make it too cluttered. You have extra space, so make the text larger and spread out on different lines. You don't want to put information too close to the edges, maybe give it like a 1/2 - 1 cm margin from the gray.
The font doesn't seem nice either, some of it is too plain, and some of it is too fancy.
Maybe get a washed-out image as a background, that's what I did for my tickets in school.
But nice job, good luck :)

Just try to choose more like colors. Perhaps one that fit with whatever the school's theme is/the movie's theme. ;)

Also, you can't go wrong with a nice, clean ticket. (As in, you don't have to overly-design it, it can just be some neat gradient with perhaps some glossy effect or whatever and it will look very nice)

News portal has been retired. Main page of site goes to Headline News forum now
  • The Helper The Helper:
I am working on getting access to the old news portal under a different URL for those that would rather use that for news before we get a different news view.

    Easily done

https://www.thehelper.net/pages/news/ is a link to the old news portal - i will integrate it into the interface somewhere when i figure it out

    Need to try something
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hopefully this won't cause problems.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hmm
  • Ghan Ghan:
I have converted the Headline News forum to an Article type forum. It will now show the top 20 threads with more detail of each thread.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    See how we like that.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do not see a way to go past the 1st page of posts on the forum though
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is OK though for the main page to open up on the forum in the view it was before. As long as the portal has its own URL so it can be viewed that way I do want to try it as a regular forum view for a while
  • Ghan Ghan:
Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is with the pagination.
  • Ghan Ghan:
It SHOULD be there so I think it might just be an artifact of having an older style.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I switched it to a "Standard" article forum. This will show the thread list like normal, but the threads themselves will have the first post set up above the rest of the "comments"
  • The Helper The Helper:
I don't really get that article forum but I think it is because I have never really seen it used on a multi post thread
  • Ghan Ghan:
RpNation makes more use of it right now as an example: https://www.rpnation.com/news/
