Showing the massive amounts of hit points.

I noticed how testing maps in NewGen can make the game show even massive amounts of hp. However, when I play the map normally the hp doesn't show at all. How can I make Warcraft show hp that is above 100k?

As far as I know, it remains invisible because it exceeds the length of the section that shows the hit points. As the unit it is hit, it shows the value for a short time.

Um i can't think of any way around that.
Maybe someone else could think of a solution.

Well, I tried opening warcraft in windowed mode and it shows hp above 100k now. It's just like you said Inflicted. The hp remains unseen because it won't fit the box. However, opening warcraft in windowed mode extends the box allowing hp to be shown.

that solution may work for him and be useful for testing.
But i highly doubt that everyone that plays your map is going to change their resolution.
Your going to need a way around this, otherwise just live with the problem :/

There isn't really a workaround that will effect everyone who plays your map.
100,000 HP is a massive amount as it is. How about increasing the units armour, or making all units comparatively weaker?

Romek's solution I would say is the best, but the hardest.
The floating text is the easiest, but is meh.

You could also just allow the user to type -hp to show the unit's HP.
This isn't exactly what you want, but it works.

Agreed. As a general rule, I dislike large numbers. There is no reason to use "100-200 damage" when "10-20 damage" will work just fine. Generally, the smaller the numbers, the better. Plus, players generally see more effectiveness when they see increases in small numbers than in very large ones, its just how the human brain works.

Yes, in a map like, say, "Final Fantasy Epic RPG", the game has really high numbers.
So you don't notice an increase when you're hitting high levels like 95, 96, etc.

When you have lower numbers, you can actually see, notice, and feel the increase when you're killing those enemies.

Wow...you guys really like small numbers, not that it's bad or anything. It's just I kinda like big numbers because it reminds me of Disgaea. It felt different because it strayed from the normal 9999 damage cap for RPGs.

Thanks for the suggestion guys. I can't really do the floating text thing since it will probably look messy when I show how much damage each unit does.

The -hp could work but it seems Neurotoxin's suggestion could work for all maps without any triggering so I think I'll go with that. But uh...how do you make your resolution bigger and make warcraft fit to it? I tried changing the resolution in options but the screen didn't get any bigger...

As mentioned though, not everyone is going to change their resolution to play your map.
They'll just move on to the next map without a second thought once they find out they have to do all that.

It's crude, but true lol.

And I'm not really saying I prefer small or large numbers.
The fact is though, small is just easier to work with.

/EDIT: /facepalm Romek.. /facepalm.. :p

The numbers could still be relatively big if all the other numbers are relatively small ('small' being any normal game sort of numbers, really).
How about other alternatives such as high HP regen, armour, or other abilities?

That's what she said.
