hey everyone .
if i want start make new map what should i need cuz some ppl tell me i should dl newgen and idk what is it .

NewGen is a pack of tools. The most useful and widely used being JassHelper which allows for vJASS syntax.

If nothing else, get it for the fact that almost everything now-a-days uses vJASS.

But you can still make very nice maps through the GUI, if you're not that experienced then just use the GUI (standard WC3 editor with the dropdowns and stuff)

This was a kind of useless post. But. To add on to it, Yes you can make gui triggers if you don't know JASS or vJASS, but, vJASS is needed, trust me. Everyone uses it, and it's needed. It also has many tools that map makers need.

I should learn vJASS and JASS some day, I still make maps in the GUI hehe :)

ok thanks all but i wana know if u know any way to learn vJass and maybe there is some tools in WE for it .

JASS is simply the script language WE operates in, when you normally make a trigger it automatically generates the JASS code.

To write the JASS yourself you can enter the trigger editor and then select a trigger, or create a new one, then go to Edit in the top bar and click "Use Custom Code" or w/e it says, I don't remember clearly.

If you're new to the editor then you should play around with the GUI before jumping to the raw code. I'm a noob and use the GUI, but it works just fine for me so I don't bother learning JASS atm. Maybe some other time.

Not completely true. If you have prior knowledge of programming code, you might an easier time using JASS instead of GUI, even if you're new to the editor.

True, the only scripting I do is HTML, CSS etc. And some au3 <- That's a whole lot of fun, I made a fish bot to WoW once :D (OFF-TOPIC)

well i know 80% from GUI and 0 % from JASS .
i wonder if there is fast way to learn Jass and if there is any tools for Jass ?

There is no "fast" way to learn anything. At least, we aren't technologically advanced enough to attach something to your brain. Read tutorials, and/or the jasshelper manual

Learning JASS is pretty simple if you have a logical mind. You can probably power through a couple tutorials and manuals and get enough to start scripting.

To be honest, you only need to learn the syntax. The rest is done for you or you figure out yourself. After learning the syntax, function names can all be derived from TESH (NewGen) or converted from GUI (not recommended at all ever in an infinity billion years). And ideas for scripts come from you.

The only thing that a manual can teach you is syntax and habits which are all you need to learn to begin.

I barely knew HTML when I started mapping; Now I've got Javascript and C++ as well, making it a lot easier to understand JASS syntax.

Actually if you've never seen scripting before then the GUI is a great basic of scripting, an event occurs, if a condition macthes then do something, that's pretty much scripting described as short as possible.

Let's put it this way: If you learn GUI, you're essentially making it easier in the beginning but harder in the long run. If you learn (v)JASS, you're making it harder in the beginning, but easier in the long run.

News portal has been retired. Main page of site goes to Headline News forum now
  • The Helper The Helper:
I am working on getting access to the old news portal under a different URL for those that would rather use that for news before we get a different news view.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Easily done

  • The Helper The Helper:
https://www.thehelper.net/pages/news/ is a link to the old news portal - i will integrate it into the interface somewhere when i figure it out
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Need to try something
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hopefully this won't cause problems.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hmm
  • Ghan Ghan:
I have converted the Headline News forum to an Article type forum. It will now show the top 20 threads with more detail of each thread.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    See how we like that.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do not see a way to go past the 1st page of posts on the forum though
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is OK though for the main page to open up on the forum in the view it was before. As long as the portal has its own URL so it can be viewed that way I do want to try it as a regular forum view for a while
  • Ghan Ghan:
Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is with the pagination.
  • Ghan Ghan:
It SHOULD be there so I think it might just be an artifact of having an older style.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I switched it to a "Standard" article forum. This will show the thread list like normal, but the threads themselves will have the first post set up above the rest of the "comments"
  • The Helper The Helper:
I don't really get that article forum but I think it is because I have never really seen it used on a multi post thread
  • Ghan Ghan:
RpNation makes more use of it right now as an example: https://www.rpnation.com/news/
