Terraining Contest, Reward being decided.

Are we limited to one submission type, or can we enter twice...

eg. I wish to enter a beach map as another submission.

...is that yay or nay?

Or.

 Nay, in my opinion. You should only need one map. If you REALLY wanna do something extra, make a REALLY big map, and create multiple types of terrain, all over. Create your own little world ;) Then, simply CHANGE your submission.

Deadline hasn't run up yet ;)

read the first page, it explains that you can only submit one map but it is allowed to be a mixture say: a beach and a forest combined in one map, but you must make the change of scenery look realistic to get points.

Forest which turn into a beach so suddenly will not get many marks.

Make the change noticable.

~Jindo

Eh, you don't need to. Soon I'll submit the map (after working on the marsh a tad more...I need to somehow make some more river crevices without messing up the playability of the map) and you can link to the post with the map submission :)

(And simultaneously, it shall be submitted for review on the world-editor-tutorials map section)

okay fine :).

But until that time, im keeping both links to terrain, then ill remove the 2nd link and change the first (of yours).

Good luck everyone who's competing, this will be a VERY hard decision :).

~Jindo

And here it is! I may change the map, but perhaps not. I think the changes will be made to the one that is to be submitted to the Maps section, because the creeps might be too difficult :D

Intentionally, for those playing this as a melee map, there are specific strategies to the positions of the players. It's up to you to figure them out ;)

Screenshots:

This is the main grove of rocks and shrubbery in a middle-of-nowhere clearing that gives Hidden Groves its name. Well...it's not the only grove, but it's the nearest one to player 1 and because player 1 usually owns the game, it's a rigged society centered on his base
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...oveTheGrove.jpg

Don't go thinking this waterfall is too wimpy. Any ship going down the center will be in for a surprise!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...veWaterfall.jpg

As you can see, there ship was quite ruined when it fell down that waterfall and they had to lug it to this location. Over time, they built gates and gathered a treasure trove of items in their barrels from recent raids.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...xPirateCamp.jpg

Perhaps gathering berries next to the camp of ex-pirates was not such a good idea....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...BerryBushes.jpg

These guys have justed made themselves at home and they are not friendly.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...eticHideout.jpg

Aside a small piece of scenery, this river crossing is the shortcut way to player 2's base (from player 1's location).
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...verCrossing.jpg

This is the overgrown passage to the camp of ex-pirates. As you can see, there are some bandits overlooking the passage eager to attack any weakling wanting to go through.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...CampPassage.jpg

This temple sunk into the ground after one nasty earthquake a long, long time ago. Now, heretic wizards hungering for magical power reside within it, eager to slay any outsiders.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...apsedTemple.jpg

This village was near the sunken temple and somehow linked to it--it also fell about the same distance. However, instead of mages inhabiting it, the Undead did instead...a small battalion.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...rtedVillage.jpg

The third and last place connected in the earthquake was this marsh, created by ripping a hole in the ground near a mountain range. The mountain range sunk into the ground, the hole dumping a hidden pocket of water into the valleys of the mountains, soon creating this marsh.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...oveTheMarsh.jpg

These seemingly endless grasslands cover a good portion of the Hidden Groves, surrounding the hidden getaways with their tiring hills and pits.

And last of all, the zoom out of the map

Get Moonstone Forest Terrain map Here

Also i would like some oppinions on how you think my terrain looks.. Thansk in advance :D

Not bad dude, not bad at all. It's on very similar bounds (looks similar) to the Melee map im working on at the moment.

Keep at it,
-Husky

P.S: Is that a Melee map or is it just a large piece of terrain?

That's really good.

It doesn't matter if it is a melee map as long as it looks real enough to have a chance of winning.

Replace Rinpun's links with a new link to the post with your map.

Also added Sheep_Quest's post link to the first page.

This is gonna be a good contest, quite a few people joined :D!

EDIT: husky, should i do a link to that or is that the same post as your first terrain post? Did you just edit the post with your terrain? if so then never mind but if not should i link it up?

If you're in the World Editor, there are two buttons you can hold down that allow you to drag the camera around with the mouse. I don't know them on Windows, though.

~1 Advanced > View Entire Map

~2 This i didnt explain, but you can use the rolling thing on your mouse to scroll in and out of the map. If you press C and do it, you get different view.

There are other ways such as making a camera, changing the angle and position and then clicking the Set to Camera View button.

Hope this helps, the first post explained your first question.

~Jindo

to know all controls, go to edit>configure controls
to move camera in windows, its ctrl+right click and drag..
ctrl is control.

Those are very good, you really have got the hang of terraining ;).

They're simple but effective, name and link being added to first post.

News portal has been retired. Main page of site goes to Headline News forum now
  • The Helper The Helper:
I am working on getting access to the old news portal under a different URL for those that would rather use that for news before we get a different news view.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Easily done

  • The Helper The Helper:
https://www.thehelper.net/pages/news/ is a link to the old news portal - i will integrate it into the interface somewhere when i figure it out
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Need to try something
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hopefully this won't cause problems.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hmm
  • Ghan Ghan:
I have converted the Headline News forum to an Article type forum. It will now show the top 20 threads with more detail of each thread.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    See how we like that.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do not see a way to go past the 1st page of posts on the forum though
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is OK though for the main page to open up on the forum in the view it was before. As long as the portal has its own URL so it can be viewed that way I do want to try it as a regular forum view for a while
  • Ghan Ghan:
Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is with the pagination.
  • Ghan Ghan:
It SHOULD be there so I think it might just be an artifact of having an older style.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I switched it to a "Standard" article forum. This will show the thread list like normal, but the threads themselves will have the first post set up above the rest of the "comments"
  • The Helper The Helper:
I don't really get that article forum but I think it is because I have never really seen it used on a multi post thread
  • Ghan Ghan:
RpNation makes more use of it right now as an example: https://www.rpnation.com/news/

I will have to get used to this.
