In post-apocalyptic 2043, a lone hero, Eli (Denzel Washington), guards the Book of Eli (a Bible which, to his knowledge, is the last Bible in the world), which provides knowledge that could redeem society, and the source of all their pain. The Book of Eli is an upcoming post-apocalyptic action film directed by the Hughes brothers and starring Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman and Mila Kunis. Filming began in New Mexico in February 2009. The film is scheduled to be released on January 15, 2010.

PS:
This movie is like Fallout. Except the character is blade. ;))

what kind of jacked up event happened that made every other Bible disappear off the face of the earth?

Its been a while since Denzel made a movie (to my knowledge) lets hope this one is good.

Well maybe all the libraries and houses and churches exploded. :O

Comes out in 5 days, teehee.

Sounds like my kind of bomb.

I'm afraid this movie is just going to be another cliche post-apocalyptic wasteland film ala Mad Max.

we are nearing 2012. Apocalyptic movies are in now

They are always "in." It doesn't change the fact that they've become derivative and drab. I watched the trailer for this, and it looks like it has potential. We'll just wait and see.

Also, I have a little trouble figuring out why someone would kill to protect a bible.

Sorta undermines the whole "do unto others" thing that Jesus guy taught.

Because "some would use it for the wrong purposes" or something like that.
He needs to protect it. And Christians fought, too. War is different than murder. Lots of people were killed in the bible, lol.

I realize the bible is full of hypocrisy, it just seems funny to make a movie celebrating that hypocrisy.

So are you some peace activist now...
There's nothing wrong with death. And who says Denzel in this movie is doing it for the bible, rather for mankind eh? You gotta ask questions on diff levels, lol.

Dont get out of hand with the Bible, whether or not you think it contradicts itself o_O

Its hollywood. They produce movies for the cash.

Let's... NOT make this into a religious debate... Shall we?

WE SHALL!

Please stick to the topic :)

I wasn't posing a debate, I was posting an on-topic critique/opinion on the film's content. Just because it's religious doesn't make it a debate.

You posted an opinion about the BIBLE, not anything related to the story.

I thought about what you said for some time before posting my warning. It stands :)

your avatar states that you are thinking about it :p...

Has anyone noticed that the movie's site is "comingsoon.net"?

Saw it. Loved it. Hardcore atheists probably won't like it, very religious. Oh, and the action is hella awesome.

Hey now I'm an Atheist and I quite enjoyed it. It definitely was a Fallout-meets-Jesus kinda film, in my opinion. The director focused a good bit on the religious part, which made some people feel as if the movie was moving too slowly due to the lack of action. However, I felt that it was a good change-up from all the movies out there that just have SOME kind of fighting happening every 2 seconds, and the story/characters were really brought out by doing so.

With that said, I had a random thought:

Since it's entitled "the book of Eli", could we assume that they added a chapter to the Bible for Eli when they re-wrote it at the end, or is it just entitled that since Eli was the owner of the book? I was kinda hoping that there was a deeper meaning to it ...

the character's name is Eli. And its his Bible. So its the Book of Eli.
I actually have no idea. that was just a guess

News portal has been retired. Main page of site goes to Headline News forum now
  • The Helper The Helper:
I am working on getting access to the old news portal under a different URL for those that would rather use that for news before we get a different news view.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Easily done

  • The Helper The Helper:
https://www.thehelper.net/pages/news/ is a link to the old news portal - i will integrate it into the interface somewhere when i figure it out
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Need to try something
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hopefully this won't cause problems.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    Hmm
  • Ghan Ghan:
I have converted the Headline News forum to an Article type forum. It will now show the top 20 threads with more detail of each thread.
  • Ghan Ghan:
    See how we like that.
  • The Helper The Helper:
I do not see a way to go past the 1st page of posts on the forum though
  • The Helper The Helper:
It is OK though for the main page to open up on the forum in the view it was before. As long as the portal has its own URL so it can be viewed that way I do want to try it as a regular forum view for a while
  • Ghan Ghan:
Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is with the pagination.
  • Ghan Ghan:
It SHOULD be there so I think it might just be an artifact of having an older style.
  • Ghan Ghan:
I switched it to a "Standard" article forum. This will show the thread list like normal, but the threads themselves will have the first post set up above the rest of the "comments"
  • The Helper The Helper:
I don't really get that article forum but I think it is because I have never really seen it used on a multi post thread
  • Ghan Ghan:
RpNation makes more use of it right now as an example: https://www.rpnation.com/news/
