Warcraft III help

I have read all of the other posts similar to my problem. (well most of them anyway) Here is my situation

So what I don't understand is why Warcraft III will not work on my brothers account... (Windows XP)
A long time ago I first installed Warcraft III on my account, I had the problem i am having now, and after some time, some how I fixed it, it was so long ago and I forgot how to fix it. Now my brother wants to play. He has a different account then I do on XP and when He tried it, it came up with the original problem from long ago. I thought it was something with the accounts so I installed it to his account. The problem still came up.

Here is the problem

Right after the opening movie, with blizzard and the knight and orc fighting, instead of going to the menu page it comes up with:

This application has encountered a critical error: FATAL ERROR! Program: c:\documents and settings\all users\documents\warcraft iii\war3.exe Exception 0xC0000005 (ACCESS VIOLATION) at 001B:0306A6A8 This instruction at ‘0x0306A6A8’ referenced memory at ‘0x0306A6A8’. The memory could not be ‘read’.

I can only guess it is somtthing with his graphic settings, the think that i don't understand is that I am able to play is on my account. Because the program is under the C drive there should be no user account problems

I am very sure all of my drivers are updated and my vitual memory is like 756 mb

Perhaps you fixed these crashes by adding -opengl or -swtnl to the Warcraft III.exe shortcut ?

Please post your system specs so we can assist you further.

Why did you install it to c:\documents and settings\all users\documents\warcraft iii\ ??

You really should install it to C:\PROGRAM FILES

Anyway, this shouldn't matter

Your brother's account does need to be a Computer Administrator in order to run War3 (and also in order to have the ability to Write to that folder, if your c: drive is formatted with NTFS)

Why

Yes my brothers account is an administrator and i installed it into c:\documents and settings\all users\documents\warcraft iii\ to see if it was a "share" problem, i still have the original installed into the program folder, I an afraid to uninstall it in the case that it might not work for me.

hmmm

I just noticed something...

I named the "Warcraft III" folder "Warcraft IIIa" and reinstalled war3 on my brothers account, and tried it but it didn't work. I then went back to my account and tried it and it worked. it was at this time that I noticed when I start War3 from my account the beginning movies with Blizzard and the knight anf orc does not play, it goes striaght to the menu screen... I wonder what that means. I can only guess it has to do with one of my accounts settings, but i don't know what.

You do not need to install Warcraft III twice. Just install it C:\Program Files and make sure your are both administrators.

As for the intro video not playing, that is because Warcraft III is programmed to only play the video once the first time you run the game. It is no longer played afterwards.

Is your brother running any firewall or anti-virus software on his account ?

Perhaps you fixed the crashes by lowering the sound acceleration level in dxdiag ? (Although I do believe that setting applies for all accounts)

Start Menu, Run, type dxdiag. Under the Sound tab, lower the acceleration level to basic. (For troubleshooting purposes for the time being)

Some users fixed crashes by lowering their acceleration to basic and then putting it back to full. Others need to leave it at basic. Go ahead and try full acceleration again. If it does not work, don't worry, using the basic acceleration does not make much of a difference anyway.

Yes, this solution is posted on Blizzard's Technical Support site. Don't worry about it though, it was my pleasure to help you out.
