Basic Passive Spell

Attempting my first ability here so some help would be great. I'm making a basic passive spell. Its pretty simple, there are several levels of the spell and each increases armor and reduces attack damage. How would I go about doing this? (I based it off a 0% evasion passive so now I need the trigger work)

Base it on an aura that increase the attack damage for allies (Endurance Aura?)
Then change it's value to negative, and targets allowed to 'Enemies'. -That way your aura will automatically deduct attack damage for enemies.
Now you only need to add armor. You can do this by using a hidden spellbook + devotion aura.

I need to make a trigger involving the heroes ability

how do I make an action/event refer to that hero if hes not on the map. I store him in a variable. But how do I store him in a variable? I am much confused

Use Devotion Aura with negative values for the armor reduction.

Reducing attack damage that the hero takes from enemies.

As for this, do you want it do reduce physical, magic or both type of damage?

You could try use command aura with negative values. Although it is by percentage.

Heres what I got so far.

Event - Unit learns a skill (ABILITY)
Conditions - Learned Hero skill equal to (ABILIT)
Action - Set (HERO) equal to unit learning hero skill

now how do I give him the buffs with additional actions? I cant find ones that give armor or anything

You can't directly give him the buff. You'll have to create an ability in the object editor. Then you have to add that certain ability to the hero.

Do the abilities that you add to the unit for this situation count for their normal abilities. What I mean is :

normally a hero can only have 4 abilities (with a defualt active one to)
one of the abilities uses a trigger which adds other abilities to use its effect
can you still have the other 3 abilities?

If you add the ability, it will take up a slot in the Hero Ability Slot, except for some abilities such as "Item - Armor Bonus", which are hidden. You can add these abilities in the spellbook, then you can hide the spellbook via trigger: "Player - Disable/Enable Ability" or something like that. Even though you disable the spellbook in this manner, only the icon of the spellbook will be hidden, thus all passive abilitiy effects in the spellbook will be present.

You guys are making it too complicated with all the auras. There is already a passive ability that reduces all received attack damage by a certain amount: Hardened Skin, what the Mountain Giant has. You can set it to reduce all incoming damage by x, but allow a minimum damage y to still get through.
