I'm trying to make sacrifice cost lumber when the ability is cast.

Would this work?

Trigger:
  • Sacrfice
    • Events
      • Unit - A unit Starts the effect of an ability
    • Conditions
      • (Ability being cast) Equal to Sacrifice (Acolyte).
    • Actions
      • If (All Conditions are True) then do (Then Actions) else do (Else Actions)
        • If - Conditions
        • Then - Actions
          • Player - Add -500 to (Owner of (Triggering unit)) Current gold
        • Else - Actions
          • Do nothing

Yep, that'll work. A little tip, you can change Owner of(Triggering Unit) to Trigger player.

I thought you're trying to charge for lumber. Why do you take off 500 gold from the triggering player?

Okay thank you. Would it work if the unit doesn't have sufficient lumber?

No, I don't think so. (Why don't try it yourself and not waste time waiting for someone in forum to respond?) What about using Charge Gold and Lumber instead?

I'm not sure what your Sacrifice(Acolyte) does, but if you want a unit to be unable to cast it without the lumber you can make a condition to stop him.

Otherwise yes the trigger should work.

P.S. The trigger above is charging gold, not lumber.
