I don't think so somehow... or at least they're gonna have a job finding people doing this and cracking down on it, because there are simply too many to downgrade them ALL to dial-up.

Plus, it would mean a sucker-punch to developing fibre-optic lines and stuff.

I've used Limewire for ages and got loads of *items* without any trouble.
I take necessary precautions, of course - all files are downloaded to an isolated file and are scanned for viruses as they download.
I've only ever had one serious virus on this PC and it didn't come from Limewire.
I've had minor threats, but they were easily dealt with.

I'd rather not take the risk.
My family pays like £35 for 20mbps

Dialup.. would suck hard.

The quality isn't good anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

Ive actually looked into some of that virus stuff and with viruses of kinds like RAT:s (remote administration) or etc you can use so called "Binders" to "merge" your virus file with a legit file of any kind. In other words, its possible that you download a .mp3 file with the song you were looking for, but with a virus attached so that when you use the .mp3 the virus is unleashed... So ALWAYS virus scan anything downloaded from P2P programs (for e.g you can use virustotal.com).. And i really recommend using Bittorrent instead of P2p...

Also make sure that its not only too high - but too low.

If a song is 200 kbs, you know something isnt right.

I, personally, love limewire, and have never gotten a virus, and have had it for about 3 years.
Although dl'ed less than 100ish things from it
Rarely use.

I'm using torrents as I type this, and I'm downloading at about 107 kb/s. I would say that's not too shabby.

The file sizes may be bigger with torrents, but that is because you download entire albums in 1 file rather than downloading individual songs. Much better in my opinion.

I'll have an entire album downloaded in about 15 minutes total, and I know it will be clean and of good quality.

The download speed depends on the amount of seeders that are hosting the file. When you go to a site to download something, as long as the seeders are around 60+, it'll download pretty fast.
