Okay. There isn't really a contest here, I was just wondering why exactly almost everyone on TH has decided to make a contest, some even on the exact same subject. Everytime I enter the WE Help Zone, I see another contest thread.

Contests are fun to create, judge, and participate in, BUT not when there are 50 contests going on at once.

So PLEASE, if you have any thought of starting a contest, think to yourself.

Am I just doing this because everyone else is? Is it on the same subject as others? Am I doing this for personal gain? Will people actually join and participate, or will it just end up being spam?

Please reconsider if you are planning on launching a contest, there are enough going around.

If you are refering to the (O)bsidio contest, sorries again. I wanted to bring a quality contest here between other shadow contests, wanted to make something original, competitive and fun to join.

I believe there should be a section for contests. It is clear that they are becoming something "trendy" here. I didn't start any contest before because they were not popular, and nobody would join anyway.

Btw, do not make a contest in an area (for example spellmaking) if you are not very good in that area. In the case of spells for example, making a contest and saying something like "do not use JASS because I do not know" will make your contest pathetic. You are ready to judge other's work only after you have mastered that area. That's what I did... I only started making contests after I found myself good enough in spellmaking (& lately in iconing). It is pathetic to see that others are uncapable to judge your work and that you get a bad rating just because it is "too complicated for them to understand".

Daelin, thanks for the addition, that is a good point.

I am not pointing out anyone's contest in particular, some are very neat, organized and have participants because of this.

Not to be harsh, but the other contests are just spamming up the forum. They are sloppy and like Daelin pointed out, the creator just has no idea. Which is why I think many of them are really just out to get some free icons (Yes, I know not you smiths9 =P) or something.

So, once again, please reconsider before creating your contest, use good judgement, because it may be a great idea, but with the number of contests going around, it might just die. So just wait :p

There should be some rule when starting a contest, I mean, there are like 10+ contest running now.
Jindo's Terrain Contest and Emjlr3's hero contest has been running for a few month now, and They're great.
So instead of everyone making their own hero contest (like: <<<DRAGONBALL Z HERO CONTEST>>>, and stuff like that), why not participate, or ask to judge, in the already existing one?
And for Daelin's I think it's a great idea putting both Icon and Spellmaking into the same contest.

I can't do so much about this, but atleast think twice before selecing judges to your contest, It's not fair if someone made an advanced spell and don't get proper jugding because the judges don't understand it(I know Daelin said this).

And a last note, woulden't it be easier with a small sub-forum, for all the contests, so that they don't terrorize the World Edit Help Zone.

Yes, to many contests. I joined a contest but it really hasen't got many contestants at all, probably because of all the other ones.

Make a section only for contests.

I suggest making a contest section where you can put a mod specialised in contests. Each contest requires approval before people can start joining. Not only the contest, but the judges are very important. As I was saying before, if they know nothing about what they are doing... :banghead:

It's not difficult to add a subforum... I am sure vbulletin is not that different from invisionboard. :)

>.< that's mean. Please, don't start with these types of suggestions and comments (not that you were being bad kc), or the thread might get closed, I have a habit of starting threads that end up getting closed :(

Ya, we all know that ^^
I don't want to make a very cool/advanced GUI trigger and then have it not be graded right.

Is "advanced GUI" an oxymoron?

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
