A more complete Metamorphosis?

Metamorphasis from one Hero type to another replaces the unit, stats, and active skills, and thats great. But what it doesnt do is replace what the unit can learn with his Skill Points.

To illustrate, I have a hero "Caterpillar" who has the Hero Skill (ie: learnable) "Eat Leaf" and Normal Skill (ie: always known) "Cocoon."

Cocoon is based off of Metamorphasis with PERMANENT flagged. When cast, I want the hero to turn into a brand new hero, "Butterfly" who has the Hero Skill "Look Pretty" and the Normal Skill "Fly."

The best I can get is for Butterfly to have "Fly" but still learn only "Eat Leaf." Is there any way to make that more complete?

I think if you make a trigger where once the unit hits a certain level or casts an ability being equal to what it is, you could remove the unit and spawn a new unit called the butterfly with the new abilities you want.

Thats what I'm currently using, but that causes some cosmetic problems that morphing avoids. The unit gets a new name, and if a name is repeated, then it gets a II after it. Suddenly "Skippy" gets renamed to "Sammy" or at best "Skippy II." Also if it was part of a Unit Group or CTRL+# hotkey, it gets removed.

The best I can say it to make a similar name that he evolves into. Sorry :/

If "Fly" has many levels and it is levelable ability like "Eat Leaf" add both abilities to "Butterfly" hero abilities. Only then he can level new abilities. If that unit would again morph I am not sure what happens to "Fly" ability beacause it can' t be leveled anymore maybe on new unit and that can cause unknown results.

you could use the engineering upgrade to upgrade the move to something else... so when the hero morphs make them learn a modded engineering upgrade

Yeah. Every life iteration goes:
Skippy -> Sammy -> Skippy II -> Sammy II -> Skippy III
It sucks.

The new hero cant have all the learnable abilities of the old. There simply isnt enough room for 8 learnable abilities.

This would fix my analogous situation perfectly. Unfortunately, the pre-hero has no learnable abilities, while the post-hero has five. I'd have to give the pre-hero five dummy abilities, and then warn the user that these will also become new abilities when morphed, and its just a headache. Great suggestion though.

Your going to have the replace the unit completely then.

That was my assumption as well. :-/ Damn.

Hopefully "Skippy VII" only bugs me and not everyone else.

I dont know if I follow you. I set my own Proper Hero Names in the unit editor, but even with a half dozen, every time the unit dies, it gets a new name, so II, III, IV, etc show up regularly.

It shouldn't.

Hero Proper Names :
Skippy
Sammy

<I don't remember the field name, it should be one cell down of Hero Proper Names, like Amount of Hero Proper Names or something like that> :

I have the Proper Hero Names and # just as you showed. What happens is this:
Pick a hero, his name is Skippy
He evolves, and is completely replaced as a unit, and is called Sammy.
He dies, and revives as Sammy.
He evolves, is replaced, and is now Skippy II.
He dies, revives as Skippy II.
Evolves, replaced, Sammy II.
etc etc etc

use as many proper names as you need for each of your evolutions, just copy and paste the same name endlessly

Proper Names: Skippy, Skippy, Skippy, Skippy, Skippy, Skippy ... etc etc
Proper Names Used: 6 ... etc

that might do it

Known Issues

Morphing a unit adds it's current armor, damage, health, mana, provided by all items that the unit has, and also auras, and stats (Strength, Agility, Intelligence).
