Im going to tell you how to make cliffs.
What I mean by cliffs is: Using the Raise/Lower tool with the plateau to make cliffs, instead of the traditional 1/2 Up/down.
Why would you use this?
You can use this tool to make near vertical cliffs of any type of terrain tyle, instead of the standard 2 with each tilests.
Does this method have disadvantages?
Yes, It has one disadvantage that using cliffs does not: It cannot make an exact 90 degree angle. this causes it to look ugly if used incorrectly.
What do I need?
All you need is the world editor, Im pretty sure this would work with ROC, but I can't be sure.
How do I do this?
1: Use the lower tool to create a ditch in the ground.
2: Expand the ditch using the plateau tool to make steep hills (you cliff).
3: If you want, add what ever terrain effects, such as doodads
4: You can't have people running up and down cliffs that steep. So you have to options: Add pathing blockers (have their own doodad section in every terrain) or add an aura that slows down everyone on the cliff.
5A: the pathing blockers: If your going to use pathing blockers, make sure they are ground only, and alive. (every pathing blocker has 2 forms: alive and dead)
5B:
If you want to make the cliffs climbable, but take a while, you would add an aura using an invisible dummy unit. Make sure you base the dummy unit off a shade, or give it no model, then give it the ability "locust" (main thing is that its neutral hostile, invisible, and has locust). then give itan ability based off endurance aura, or another ability that slows units down. change the targeting so it targets enemies, allies, vulnerable, vulnerable, and self. Reduce its movement speed to 0, and place it on the cliff.
Other possible things to do with cliffs:
A)Make it on a mountain and slow down air units.
B)Give an alternate path down the cliff by making the hill on one side slightly less steep and removing the pathing blocker (Could cause a problem for the aura)
Well thats about it. Sorry if this tutorial isnt in the right place or clear enough, I just had the idea, and I wanted to share it. I experimented with it a small bit. The aura part is theoretical but I don't see why it wouldn't work, other than having trouble adjusting the range.
