Array

Hi.

So I just started toying around with the Galaxy Editor, I was quite skilled with the World Editor in WC3. However, that was a long time ago so I've seem to have forgotten some things.

What I want to accomplish right now is to set up an array from 0-22 (23 slots in total), each one containing a specific unit (either to be selected on-screen or chosen from the "library") so that later on the game will pick a random number and give the corresponding unit to the player, disabling that number from being picked again for another player.

Any ideas?

You make your array an array of type Unit Type, so it can hold all the different unit types.
Then you make a second array of the same size and of type Boolean. In this array you will save whether the corresponding unit type has been picked already. Let's call it UnitTypeIsPicked.

JASS:
Local Variable:
    t = 0 <Integer>
Actions:
    //We set t to a random number at first. Then we set t to a different
    //random number as long as UnitTypeIsPicked[t] is true.
    //Once it's false we got a number that hasn't been taken yet.
    Set t = Random number between 0 and 22
    While (Condition) do (Action)
        Condition:
            UnitTypeIsPicked[t] == true
        Action:
             Set t = Random number between 0 and 22
    End While

    //Now we mark the number t as taken.
    Set UnitTypeIsPicked[t] = true;
    UnitType[t] is now your randomly selected unique unit.

Just remember: When this trigger ran 23 times and EVERY unit type is taken and you run this trigger again the while-loop will never stop because it doesn't find a free number anymore. So either make sure that you don't call it more than 23 times or add some sort of safety.

Thank you! That cleared some things up. However, I still can't understand how to set the units into the first array.
I've created an array of type "Unit Type of Unit" but I can't seem to be able to set the index to the corresponding units.

You don't need a boolean; you could move the data from the last index into the index that was just picked, and decrease the total by one. Then use a random integer from 0 to the new total, next time.
Code:
[0] Marine
[1] Zerg
[2] Zealot
[3] Reaper
Total = 4; Integer between 0 and 3.
If zerg gets picked:
Code:
[0] Marine
[1] Reaper << Set the last unit (Reaper) to the array slot that was picked.
[2] Zealot
Total = 3; Integer between 0 and 2

You can't do it "inside" the array entry.

You need to make a trigger (by default you have a Map Init trigger which is great for that) to initialize the array properly.
You Add a couple of "Set Variable" actions to set each index of the array individually.

    Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

    @tom_mai78101 I must be blind. If I go on my profile I don't see any area to edit the signature; If I go to account details (settings) I don't see any signature area either.

    Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
    I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
    Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
    So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
    I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
    Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
    Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
