Before reading on, please make sure you read and understood the debating rules so we could all enjoy a mature discussion.

In January second a new rule in France will start being enforced banning smoking in cafes, resturants, hotels, discos casinos, and more public places. Similiar bans have been made in Spain, Italy, Israel and Britain. What do you think of this law? Do you support it? Why is it good that it was made? Why is it bad?

We also have in Florida, I don't know about the rest of the US though
I for one, my mom is a health teacher so I think that its a perfect thing.
If you smoke, smoke outside... Let us non-smokers have clean air inside, outside the air moves so it won't stay there unlike the inside. For me as a Non-Smoker I say its fair

What if a place is divided to smoking and non-smoking parts? Much better solution, everyone are happy.

> For me as a Non-Smoker I say its fair

> Ban smoking besides in private

Why would they have to smoke only privately? It is their right to smoke. If smoking wasn't addictive I could agree with this, but smoking is addictive and people sometimes feel they have to smoke, they can't run home every time they want to smoke.

I'm pretty sure they can hold in the need to smoke until they get to a private place. It's lke waiting to get a toy, you just gotta wait and I'm sure that even they can do that.

Anyways, dividing it may SOUND like a solution, but the smoke in buildings can travel around the building so people near the place have to suffer (my brother had to sit next to just 1 smoker and boy it sucked). Not only that, but just because the customers and people there smoke does not neccesairaly mean everyone who goes in there smokes (waiters, blackjack dealers, etc.)

I'm all for this law. Smoking has no benifits whatsoever, so why keep it around and make others suffer because of it?

Rhe, no matter where you smoke in a building, the smell will travel. It will get in everyones clothing, it will get in all the furniture.

Here in California, it's illegal to smoke in buildings. When you walk into a building that even remotely has people smoking in it, or has had people smoke in it, you can smell it.

Addictive or not.. You choose to smoke so you have to deal with the problems that come ahead

The dividing thing, It would work... If the air vents weren't connected and such but there is dividing here. Smokers outside, not smokers inside... If you want to sit in inside you have to put it down in till you leave.
Yet its not fair if it rains but as long as they can smoke and It doesn't come near the non-smokers I am fine...

Why not just ban ciggaretes? Much easier.

Might as well ban everything that polutes, like buses. Or divide the city into cars and buses, and no cars and buses. that way one half isn't poluted and the other is. Oh wait, the smog can travel :p

Just smoke outside... Inside it bothers others, and outside you enjoy it more :D

Smoking, and non smoking sections.

As brought up in the headline news topic, what about the waiters/waitresses? I think thats a true concern.

Also, having smoking, and non smoking sections is as illogical as having a pee and non pee section of a public swimming pool.

> Why is it good that it was made?

To protect passive smokers health? In people lungs there are specific things (forgot how they was called) what reacts with chemicals from smoke. If these things are active you have higher chance to get lung cancer even than usual smoker who has these things passive. So you only need chemicals from smoke to activate these things. That' s why passive smoking is bad. Basically your 'urgent' need can and will kill others.
On a same note cars pollute city air. As pedestrian I breathe in chemicals. We can' t ban cars. Thats another story.

So? People fuel our economy, if you go around killing people, who's going to run the economy?

This could eventually (and probably will) branch out to bigger areas. Let's say it becomes hereditary, and generations will have weaker lungs. With all the smog already around, could be scary.

well, it's somewhat coming and smoking will get more limited. Maybe it will be forbidden one far away day.

>because it fuels are economy
Wasn't there once a law in America that forbid alcohol and then the economy collapsed? Maybe that would happen :p

Actually, only government economy.

In the colonial days I think, they banned wine (or some alcohol I forgot) and nothing happened. People started making their own alcohol, and it was still easy to get. So they unbanned it.

They banned it from making it, they never banned it from drinking it. So no one got in trouble and many mafia gangs where created of this, thus the law was removed.

Actually, you were banned from drinking Alcohol for awhile in "colonial" days.

Also, Rheias said it was their "right" to smoke? Really? It ain't in the contstitution :) You have no "right" to actually smoke.

Theres always loopholes. Freedom of religion. I think there is part of islam that requires some ritual smoking. Kinda weird but you get my point.

My view of this: if your inside (and not in your own home) dont smoke, it just pisses off the rest of us. But if ur outside, have at it.

The reason drinking alcohol was allowed was because of freedom of religion if you can't smoke marijuana but your religion requires you to, is that illegal?

I guess.... if you can prove by religious docterine that it is needed then I guess you can. It would have to be a major religion though. You can't just make one up xD.

Hurray for loopholes!

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
