Capturing Control Points

Hey,

I was wondering how to make it possible to capture control points. If you know how please send reply to this, and also I am creating a new map calledf, The Battle for Ashenvale Forest and if you would be interested in helping me by creating a custom loading screen (Maybe later custom skins and models if I find someone who can do it) and a custom mini map icon I'd be very grateful.

I'd think they're pretty easily made with GUI (i may be mistaken)

Events:
Unit enters Rect
Conditions:
Owner of triggering unit not equal to controlpointowner[1]
Actions:
Set controlpointowner[1] = owner of triggering unit
[[what you want the point to do]]

Written freehand. Controlpointowner is a player variable with an array size of the amount of points you have.

just create regions around the capture points, set a tower or something similar in the middle of it (nuetral owned) then create a method of capturing that tower.

A method could be through using an ability with cast time. You can call it "capture point" and set the cast time to say 10 seconds and its target units to mechanical structures. Then trigger it so that when the ability is finished casting on that specific tower, change ownership of that tower to a player on that team.

Another method you could use is just have a hero attack the nuetral tower, and when it is destroyed a tower for that team is created in its place.

There is alot more involved then just this tho, you will have to create a scoring system using varibles so it keeps track of how many capture points a certain team has aquired etc.

good luck with it

GUI is sufficient, but it means you wont be able to capture two control points at once (if they had a timer) and they wouldnt be able to be captured by two units at the same time.

Both KiD-X's methods are great, and I've seen them work well in other maps before. So if your looking for an easy alternative without having to write miles and miles of code, try them.

(note that I only used like an hour in photoshop for this. nothing really fancy)

The first one is a screenshot from the game (trixed a little with the text coloring there) and the other is a screenshot of how it looked in photoshop when I saved it.

I really wanted to upload the .psd file for you, but it's not just a litle too big for that
The finished .blp file and screenies are all yours tho!

I hope you like it  :p

hehe, kk :D
I guess I'll blame it on that I couldn't find a decent picture for the background. :p
And I was messing around quite a lot with the layer-styles of the texts before posting.

This isn't very hard to do... All you need to do is make an event where a unit comes within x range of x unit or enters a small region around the point. Action to wait x seconds, change owner of unit in region to owner of entering unit or unit coming within range.

Let's assume the waiting time is 10 seconds.
9.9 seconds later, my unit steps in.
Who'll get it?

How's this:
Make an integer variable. Every X seconds, pick every (buildings that are capture-able) and then pick nearby units that isn't owned by the same player who own the building. Then see if there's only that player nearby (for example, only Player 1 units are nearby) then add 1 to that variable. When the variable reaches a certain number, change the ownership and do anything else you want.

But I'm not sure if this can work, and it's definitely NOT MUI

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
