Why is channel such a good spell to be based of?

Channel is a good spell to be based off, because it has every single spell option from every spells and a few extras.

Because it is hands down the most versatile base spell available in the editor. I pratically abuse it.

Channel can be just about any spell. It can be as simple as an icon (such as a passive spell), a point-targeting spell, an AoE-targeting spell, a unit-targeting spell, etc. It also allows you to change the base order string, which means you can base multiple spells off of it, and put them all on the same unit, without having the order-strings colliding.

It has many more options, but those are the very basics. It is great for triggered spells, because it doesn't really do anything. It's the ultimate Dummy spell.

The only problem I have ever had with it, is probably my own fault, as it pauses the unit for the duration of the spell, which was messing up the animation I was trying to trigger the unit to play.

However, it does have a ton of configuration options, and may be a bit confusing the first time you see it. Take a look at the tutorial to learn more.
