Complete clean-up of a map: How to?

Hello everyone!

I have been trying for the past few days (unsucessfully) to switch from WEU to JassNewGen and EGUI.

The problem? Plenty: Much unused and garbage code, variables which are completely useless, "Advanced" spells and the like which are not useable any more and so forth and so on.

Also, Jasshelper reports some strange syntax errors which I am completely unable to fix.

I have tried various things, but all have either failed, or didn't bring me much further (I should mention that I am quite a newbie when it comes to the technical stuff)

This is why I would like to try something a bit more... radical: Simply create a new map, and import everything which is important, and leave out everything from WEU.

This is where I need help, however.

If anyone could tell me all the files I would have to export from the Map-MPQ, and reimport in a new map (which has the correct boundaries), and which then would lead to the map saving itself correctly (without the garbage), I would be very grateful.

Likewise, if anyone has a simpler solution to this problem, I would also be glad to hear it.

Thanks in advance and of course +rep for the one who provides the solution.

Yours,

In WEU, is there an option that tells you what WEU features are being used by your map? If so, then just delete or change every WEU feature your map uses and import it.

Hi there!

Not that I know of, unfortunatly.

WEU has this really weird way of going about it's business, by for example deleting the entire map header if you tell it to remove all WEU-stuff.

This leads to the map becoming unplayable.

I gave up looking for a "reverse" button in World Editor unlimited when it became obvious that the creator(s) of WEU didn't think that somebody would ever want to remove all the stuff from WEU.

Thus, my hope currently is that I simply export everything relevant from the map, and reimport everything later on then. This includes all the object data, trigger, placement of units, doodads, and rects, terrain and advanced game settings and gameplay constants, as well as player properties and map description.

what I would need to know for such a step is the files in which Warcraft saves all this, or, if Jassnewgen has such an option, how to access it.

Thanks again.

can you maybe post the map, so we can play around with it? Maybe somebody figures out an easier way then redoing/im/exporting a lot of stuff.

Hello again wellwish3r

I would prefer not to upload the map. Even though this might make solving the problem more difficult, I am sure you can understand that I don't necessarily want to upload into the internet a completely "naked" map.

I also hope that someone figures out an easier way to clean the map up, because right now, I am quite frustrated at being forced to continue to use WEU, since switching causes a lot of errors, and the loss of a few triggers which I all have to redo.

Thanks in advance,

Yours,

Ouguiya

Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
