Rules:

»Every contestant must be a registered member here, at thehelper.net. You may not submit art in someone else's name.
»The contest is dedicated to computer art. You are allowed to make hand art and then modify it on computer. However, completely hand-made art is not allowed and such entries are automatically disqualified.
»The image must be entirely yours. If you start from an hand-made image, that image has to be yours as well. The image must have your thehelper.net screen name on it. You are allowed to use brushes that are not made by yourself. If you plan entering 3D Art and you use a refference pic, You must send the refference pic as well, along with the entry.
»You may not submit older art.
»You may copyright your image by any means. However, if I think that I cannot judge the image because of the protection method, I will ask you to change it.
»Ever image must be at least 100x100 pixels in size and at most 1000x1000 pizels in size.
»You are not constricted by a certain type of graphic or a certain theme. Let your imagination free.
»Each contestant may submit up to 2 entries.
»DO NOT post the entries here! To submit your images you have to send me a PM (personal message) with a link to the image hosted on a image-hosting site ( like: Photobucket ImageShack Photojerk ). If you want to edit your entry, simply send me a new PM with the new image. The images will be displayed on the forum during the poll voting (see the Judging Criteria section).
»You may post WIPs of your images. This thread is dedicated, after all for discussions about the contest.
»You may edit your images until the due date.
»If you are saving the image in any format that allows compression, DO NOT reduce the quality of the image. This may result in a disqualified entry.
»»The due date is February 1, 00:00 o'clock, Washington DC hour, according to What Hour.

Judging:

The judging shall be done in 2 stages. The first one will consist of a 5-days poll, posted in the General Discussion forum. After that, I shall judge each image, giving it a score. Each vote from the first stage counts 5 points. All the points of each contestant will be then counted up and the winner shall be decided.

Judging criteria:

Creativity/Originality [How creative is your work? Have you done something that it's seen a lot, or have you done something outstanding?] -- 15 points

Details [How detailed is your work? Keep in mind, it doesn't matters how small is your work, you can still have blank spots] -- 15 points

Effort [How much did you worked on that graphic? I don't care how good looking is your work, but, if you just put 4-5 filters over some fast smudging, you will get penalized] -- 10 points

General Appealing [Does the graphic looks good? Do the colors match or they are bothering me? It is the image interesting?] -- 10 points

For a total of 50 points. I shall be the only judge.

Prizes:

First Place gets 20 rep points (the winner's rep will be adjusted manually) and a special award from myself.
Second Place gets 10 rep (the winner's rep will be adjusted manually).
Third Place gets 5 rep (the winner's rep will be adjusted manually).

However, if there are 3 entries, there will be only the First Place. If there are 2 entries, the First Place award reduces to 10 rep.

I made a really nice looking signiture only a few hours ago.
Can I use that? I used no brushes on the signiture. However, I did use a cutout that I made by myself....

The images can be anything, right?
Signitures avatars, abstract stuff, photographs (edited) [taken and edited by you]?

I could just scale it down or crop it and paste my signature on it.

If you guys make huge graphic files that are too big for imageshack or w/e, you can let me know and I'll host it on my site for ya .

Also, a few days ago I started an Abstract Graphics Contest on my forum if anyone's interested in entering their stuff there as well.

If it is a few hours old, no problem, but, if the image you cut it's not made by yourself, I cannot accept it.

And yes, the graphic can be anything. Photographs, only if are taken by yourself.

when u say you can only start with something like a photo, drawing or whatever as long as it is yours. How do you feel about reference pics or drawings for a 3d model. as in a face i could use to make the model. It wouldnt show or anything in the final, but its just used to get me started.

Well, I put that rule because, without it, you can, let's say, put a big render that covers almost all the canvas then cover the rest of the image with some brushing. Indeed, this would bring a low score, but, come on, if you do a graphic, do it good (I am not talking about someone, but in general).

im glad to see you gave us a good long month or so cause if i do enter its gonna take all that time. I guess im in (no certanties). Im gonna try to get something finished but if i cant i cant. I had an amazing idea but itd take a REALY long time so il see what i can do.

Well... I tought that someone might have something that would take a lot. And maybe some people would be busy on holydays and couldn't make up something for the contest. However, if one week passes without any activity (even WIPs, which could be sent through a PM or psoted here), I'm gonna end the contest and start the judging.

Contests like this are so common that you can't claim it as your idea. you can only claim the fact of thinking of hosting a contest.
