hey,

im in the process of copying a bunch of old LP's (large black vinyl discs) from an old turntable I have so I can burn them to cd, however there is a little bit of fuzz.

can anyone recommend anything to help me condition the music to remove the excess noise?

Thanks!

Some burning suites like Roxio and Nero have sound editors that can clean up the source when you are trying to do conversions like that. Check into those.

We are currently in the process of developing tools + tutorials on converting music from LPs to CDs (we = myself and others at my company). This includes telling people where to get the cables and what to connect, and also how to go about cleaning up the music to remove hums, hiss, clicks/pops, crackle etc.

In the meantime you can try downloading a product I have worked partly on, called "WavePad", which is a sound editor. The "Noise Reduction" feature may help reducing the noise in the music.

LPs were invented in the 40s. The CD was invented in the 80s, and only became mainstream in the 90s.

Nobody records to LP anymore. The only reason LPs are still made is really for "scratch records" used by DJs in nightclubs.

LP to CD - some basic ideas

there is a whole bunch of stuff on LP records that may never get to CD. So it's probably a good idea to have the tools to be able to capture that great music into the new CD media.

Here are some of my web pages that can get you started. The first presents some ideas about LP to CD conversion in general:

http://dvautier.home.comcast.net/audio/audio.htm

This page is less technical and may help to explain some of the problems

http://dvautier.home.comcast.net/lp/lp.htm

good luck on your conversion efforts.

+ if you have and LP in good condition and a good turntable... there is no comparison... they sound better.

(this doesnt mean mom's stereo she got for 499 and an old Buddy Holly album will sound great together)
But you get my meaning.

hehe you might start up a debate that will never end lordloki :)

just as the audiophiles complained that modern transistor amplifiers don't produce as good a sound as the old valve amps, LPs buffs say that music recorded on an audio CD does not match up to the music recorded on an LP.

One of the bases of the problems has to do with the fact that CD music tends to sound a bit dull or lifeless, and it can often fail to accurately capture things like the nuances in a singer's voice or the material acoustics of a cello as it is being played.

It is/was hoped that the next generation high quality audio formats (DVD-Audio and SACD) would rectify such issues, since both capture the audio at a vastly higher resolution than a CD. Sadly these formats have been very slow to catch on and have somewhat failed to find a foothold in the market.

Sadly these formats have been very slow to catch on

Generally when people have to offer a testicle or an apendage, just to pay for something, it takes a while... :D

Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

You can get there if you click the bell icon (alerts) and choose preferences from the bottom, signature will be in the menu on the left there https://www.thehelper.net/account/preferences

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
