I've been working on a map for a little while now and its mostly in the planning stage. It is taking so long because I want future versions to be backwards compatible, so if I make several map terrains in other versions people and choose the one they like best!!.. Looking for any info I can get. Here is what I have thus far...
*I was thinking this map wouldn't save character stats, only items, because I don't want people to have to play individual characters to get the full use of the map.
*I wanted bullets and abilities to kind of use mana, but within reason, like the hero can shoot all day. but his chance to miss increases as his mana decreases...
Default hero abilities
Partner - "links" two heros together. They act as seperate units, but share certain skills/abilities. Has a max effective range. IE: heroes move more then 600 [or something apart] they lose shared abilities and have to relink or something. Thinking of a cooldown or a long cast time.
Penetration - Allows heros to shoot through a primary target and effect enemies within the hero's effective range. [best used in Swat: Aftermath for the sniper]
Heros:
Sniper: Uses sniper rifle|Very low health and armor|Shares Camouflage ability
Camouflage - modified shodowmeld, can be shared with linked hero
Concentration - period to critical-hit on unit engaged. [when paired with a squad leader has a small chance to insta-kill]
Grenadier: AOE attack, either toss grenades or a type of launcher, maybe an item pick-up/creation?|Medium health, low armor|Chance of target miss based on amount of mana, nade goes flying off somewhere and perhaps kills an Ally?

Spotter: Low health and armor|Practically no attack, or shoots a pistol|Increases linked hero's sight range, attack speed, sets "linked" hero's move speed to his, increases mana?

Engineer: Medium health and low armor|Uses Shotgun. attack with high spred and no penetration
C4 Charge - remote mine, kind of...
Claymore - self explanatory
Repair - Repairs mechanical units/buildings. Uses no resources, just kind of slow...
Firebat: Low health and medium armor|Attack by throwing a sticky napalm that damages units that walk through it and continues to burn until dead and maybe a short time after, maybe adds a immolation to enemies that damages allied buildings and units|Explodes when dies, damage amount and radius depend on mana at time of death
Kamikaze - Explodes with 1.5-3.0X damage and radius a normal death
Fire trap - Might just be an attack ground if I can get the fire to work right..

Mana keeper or psychologist [name not set] Medium health and armor|High mana|Can transfer mana to heroes
Mana regen aura - provides a very small mana regen for allied units/heroes
Mana transfer - transfers his mana to an allied hero/unit, but targeted units takes damage [1on1]
Mana storm? - transfers mana to a group of allies around him/her [like a chain lightning or monsoon of mana?] , allied units/heroes take more damage then from mana transfer
Squad Leader:High health and medium armor
Armor reduction - reduces enemy armor throughout the entire map
Concentration - increases linked heroes mana, lowers Jam frequency
Cadence - increases allied unit/hero move/turn speed throughout the map
Satcom: VERY low health and medium armor|no attack or mana
Satellite imagery - Allows visibility of an area, perm until recasted
Ion cannon - Self explanatory, long cooldown
Orbital bombardment - self explanatory, long cooldown
Bunker - transforms into a bunker type building, cannot move and a health increase
Rocketeer: Medium health and armor|no attack
kneel - increases mana
SAM - an auto-cast air attack
SCUD - an auto-cast ground attack with a minumum distance and large cast range
Designate - given to a spotter or squad leader when linked, allows either hero to "call in a strike" that forces the rocketeer to bombard an area with mortar shells very fast.
Tank: High health and medium to high armor|high damage melee attack|no mana|No health regeneration|Slow moving
Attention grabber - yells or something to force enemies to attack him
Frenzy - period in which hero attacks anything around it. Hurts allies and increases attack speed 1.5-3X
Machine gunner: High health medium armor|I want this hero to attack fast but have a chance to miss. based on mana amount in which the bullet doesn't disappear, just hit an enemy[or nothing] that wasn't intended...|little penetration

Ghost: I would take this character as is from the map Undead assault, need permission though...
Nano Medic: Take this hero as is, maybe alter a bit, from map Swat: Aftermath 1.5.2
Field Medic: Medium health and armor
Field dressing - heals a bit
Rapid therapy - cures a sprain or wound
Adrenaline - increases hero/unit movement and attack speed
Bandage - creates a small kit to give to/use on allied units/heroes
Energy Medic: Medium health and no armor
Healing mist - burst of healing energy like essence of blight
no other skills yet...
Items:
Attack speed increase
Attack damage increase
Mana amount increase

Game Types
Conquest: go from place to place like a moving hold the fort...
Survival: Allows RED to pick from several bases and be ported to it to survive a timed game.
