You can make a Cursor look like whatever you want!

All you need for cursor modification are the following programs:

• wc3 image extractor
• wc3 viewer
• The gimp/Photoshop or anything else as long as it supports TGA.
• World Editor

When it's time to paint you can freely use my template, that includes all of the alpha channels if you edit the shape you have to edit so they fit. I will explain a little later in this tutorial

Step one: Cursor tutorial

and here’s what to do. Open up my template or (open WC3 image extractor and search cursor
then you will see humanCursor undeadCurser etc. choose the one you want, save it.)

Step Two: The painting

(before you paint it check if your Image Editor can save it as tga.)

WC3 have this system to make animations of your cursor. you can experiment with that for yourself. Paint it the way you like. When you've painted one that looks good you just copy the cursor and paste it above wc3 olds cursors.

Some of the cursor occasions

• the hands in the Top is the animation shown when the cursor is over a unit
• a little longer down there is some crosshairs that is used for all abilities who uses a crosshair to attack a enemy
• The hand I the buttom left corner is the cursor that is displayed when nothing is marked, so this is the most important!
• in buttom right there is some arrow shapes they are shown when you move the overview to the right/left inside wc3

paint it the way you like, if you have changed the shape of the cursor you should mark your cursor with "Magic wand" or manually so, then you should Paint the what you have marked white, so that the white have same size as you original cursor, it should look like this or like your own shape in the alpha channel

cursor32.jpg

save with the name "humanCursor.tga"

Step three: Converting and Importing

now open wc3 viewer. in a small window it says "convert files" then click on bmp , tga. or jpeg -> blp.

now we're done, the only thing needed is to import. go to your WE, and go to import manager, and import file (ctrl + i ) and find your "humanCursor.blp" or whatever you called it, change its path to one of these
(Changing the path can be done by double clicking the file and checking the "Use custom path" box)

Human = ui\cursor\humancursor.blp
Orc = ui\cursor\orccursor.blp
Nightelf = ui\cursor\nightelfcursor.blp
Undead = ui\cursor\undeadcursor.blp

remember to edit players race in " player properties" under "scenario" so you can set the right race, now it’s time to test it !

here's the result

i hope this guide will help you

all feedbacks is welcome

This is the wrong forum zone to post this.
Could you explain on what occasions each cursor is used?
Otherwise it's a neat little tutorial.

You might want to fix the numerous Spelling/Grammar mistakes in your tutorial first ;)

People here don't like when someone asks them to +rep.. That gives you a negative chance to get much of it..

i have removed it now, but it's hard to know if it helped people, if they're too lazy to reply with experiences, or with a thank

the only thing you need is 2 tools wc3 image extractor and wc3 viewer and paint/the gimp / photo shop or anything like that and of course World Editor

Maybe make the Tool Requirements into a list?
because that is not 2 tools that is 4

Tools
  • wc3 image extractor
  • wc3 viewer
  • paint/the gimp/photo shop
  • World Editor

We are not here to do the job for you.

But, I can give you a few hints:

Sentences start with a capital letter and end with a punctuation mark.

Commas do exist!

i - I

e.g, I like plums, not i like plums.

You have some weird capitalization, too.

e.g, you can make a Cursor look like whatever you want!

It should be in lowercase.

In addition, some very weird grammar.

e.g, all feedbacks is welcome

It should be in singular.

Not to mention that your sentence build-up is very odd.

Here's the first paragraph fixed.
You can make a cursor look like whatever you want!

The bolded stuff is what I fixed. All the other paragraphs have mistakes to.

Cursor Tutorial

You can make a cursor look like whatever you want!

All you need for cursor modification are the following programs:

WC3 Image Extractor
WC3 Viewer
The GIMP/Photoshop or any other program that supports TGA files.
• World Editor

When its time to paint you can freely use my template. It includes all of the alpha channels needed to be used. If you edit the shape you have to edit it [Pigger's Notes: alpha channels?] so they fit. This will be explained later in the tutorial.

Here is what you need to do:

Step One: Open up my template or open WC3 image extractor and search "cursor", you will be given items such as "humanCursor", "undeadCursor", etc. Choose the one you want to use and then save it.

Step Two: Painting & Editing

Note: Before you begin to paint the cursor, check if your Image Editor can save it in the tga format.

WC3 has a system to make animations of your cursor. You can experiment with that for yourself, this tutorial will not cover the animations. Paint it the way you like and when you've painted one that looks good, just copy the cursor and paste it above the old WC3 cursors.

Some of the cursor occasions [Pigger's Notes: :confused:]

• The hands at the top are the animations shown when the cursor is over a unit.
• A little longer down there is some crosshairs, they are used for all abilities which use a crosshair on an enemy. (I.E. When targetting a unit with Storm Bolt.)
• The hand in the buttom left corner is the cursor that is displayed when nothing is selected (When you are not using a spell or command, it is the idle cursor). It is the most important one.
• In buttom right there are some arrow shapes, they are shown when you move the overview to the right or left inside WC3.

Paint the cursors the way you like. If you have changed the shape of the cursor you should mark your cursor with the "Magic wand" or manually. This makes it so that all of your cursors have matching shapes. [Pigger's Notes: I'm not sure what these next few lines mean at all.] in the color white in the alpha channel
it should look like this or like your own shape in the alpha channel

cursor32.jpg

Save the file with the name "humanCursor.tga"

Now open up WC3 Viewer. In a small window it says "convert files", click on it and then click on "bmp, tga, or jpeg -> blp".

Now we are finished with the painting and editting steps. The only thing left to do is to import the file into the World Editor.

Step Three: Importing

Go into your World Editor and find the "Import Manager". Click on "Import File" and locate your cursor file (as we had it "humanCursor.blp [Pigger's Notes: Or as it states above, TGA]) and import your file.

Change its path to one of these:
(Changing the path can be done by double clicking the file and checking the "Use custom path" box)

Human = ui\cursor\humancursor.blp
Orc = ui\cursor\orccursor.blp
Nightelf = ui\cursor\nightelfcursor.blp
Undead = ui\cursor\undeadcursor.blp

Remember to edit the player's race under "Scenario -> Player Properties" so that you can be the same race that your new cursor is being used for. Now it is time to test the new cursor out!

Here is the result:

I hope this guide helped out, feedback is welcome.
