DVD -> AVI

OK so I was playing with my friends video recorder thinger over the summer and I made lots and lots of movies, which was cool, that we put on DVDs, which was also cool, but I don't have any software to make them into AVIs to back them up, which isn't so cool, so I would need someone to help me out, which would be really cool
