End of Year Spell Contest - Flashy Summoning

Ok since this thread is more for Q&A i have 4:
What means flashy (looking at map above)? you mean like whoa flying light effects etc?
About what theme you speak actually? chrismas snow and santa(lol)?
How long should whole "animation" take?
Also we submit maps like that? i mean everyone can look at them etc, so it best to submit near end? ;p

the theme is "make a target-area-summon-spell with nice effects" :-/

i dont thinkt there is a risk, that people will steal there, i mean ...its clear who uploaded his Wip/map first, so it would be damn clear if someone stole from somebody else.
And looking at maps from others isnt bad ...you could learn something :>
(but also it could rape your own creativity :>>>)

Quite simple spell, looks nice though, but i have one little improvement:

• Unit - Create 1 Portal (Dummy) for (Owner of Portal_Caster[Portal_CV]) at Portal_Point[Portal_CV] facing (Facing of (Triggering unit)) degrees

Use that instead of Default building facing degrees, so that the portal will always show in the right angle

I was going to try and do that, but I did something else instead that didn't end up working. Let me try that now.

what do you mean by configuration? Are trigger comments allowed to make it look cleaner?

Should every spell be posted on that thread Emijl3r opened? And is that for finished spell or you can edit there too?

post your map there, when you want, and edit it to your liking

wips does not mean a posted map

Are you allowed to use JASS lines in GUI? Like SetUnitY and SetUnitX in a GUI trigger?

Right now it's 10 peasents sliding in a circle always facing the middle (90 lines of code).

Gotta make tons of more stuff before it's finished.



A question:

If the spell has levels will that give any extra points? Like "Harder" to code or such?

Take any single-level point target ability (Cluster Rockets, Silence, Dispel Magic, ...) that, when cast,
comes with the most visually impressive way to summon a single unit at that point.

But.. I'm basing my spell of channel and then triggering every effect in the entire spell, will the be OK? Or am I just thinking of that sentance in an entirely wrong direction?



Another question:
If you add comments into your code to increase readability will that generate code points then?

Can it be for like 1 minute? and No matter where you target, it will be at a fixed location? meaning I aimed it at point a but it came to point b.

Because I'm using camera and stuff so if you aim it at the wrong point the effects get screwed up.

Whatever still makes sense.
More or less somewhere between 3 seconds and 5 minutes.

Generally, for JASS spells, there's a more or less long list of "private constant" at the top.
The idea being that you have an easy to see place where you edit the effect, or dummy 1, or spell id, or ...
Here though, do so or don't. We do not care either way.
If your spell is going to be 500+ lines, a comment here and there certainly is not going to hurt.
A three-liner does not really need that.

It is somewhat pointless though when a line like
Set var = var + 10
comes with the comment: adds 10 to var

And, no worry there, I'm prepared.
The years of being here clearly helped in reading any crap based on the description "it doesn't work"...

?
If you answered yes to all, that would be it.
If you answered no to one or more, it needs work.
