Forming oRPG team - Only Serious People Please

I've started one of these threads about 3 weeks back and got very little response back. I don't know if it was just a bad time to post or what, but I will try now once again:

I would like to create an oRPG with a group of dedicated people. By dedicated I don't mean having to be around x hours a week but simply to want to finish the project with definite goals, etc.

The only requirement I ask of you is that you have MSN because I feel that it's absolutely necessary to communicate in real time instead of emailing or private messaging. I really would like to create something professional in the likes of The Black Road, or any other great oRPG that comes to mind.

Here are my strengths:
- item/hero creation
- systems (experience, item upgrading, questing, class change)

Here is my weakness:
- terraining

What I have accomplished so far that can be useful in oRPGs:
- Unique item upgrading system (will explain in detail when we talk)
- Experience gain system
- Item drop system
- Class-specific item restriction system
- Spellbook system (if needed)
- custom spells
- creeps with custom abilities
- etc

Positions:
- Triggering (general)
- Terraining
- Story
- Heroes
- Items
- Quests
- Other

The above positions are all open even though I can fill many of them. The point is to work as a group so that stuff is done faster. I would like the oRPG size to be massive, (largest possible map), so the above will take time to do if only one person were to work on it alone.

My JASS knowledge is limited at best so if I can get someone that is good with JASS/GUI to help with triggers that would be awesome.

Please, if you are at all interested in helping, even if its 5 hours a week or less I encourage you to post here and let me know. If I get even two people with the desire to work on this then I will setup a forum and get down to business asap. Again, please have MSN !

I will be checking this thread daily !
Thanks for reading.

At this point, with just myself currently involvled, anything you could contribute is acceptable. From all the stuff I mentioned above the greatest need is terraining since I'm useless in that aspect.

No offense, but why would we want to join this out of the other 500 "JOIN MY SUPER GAME CUZ ITLL BE BETTER THAN DOTA" threads found here weekly? Your project doesn't sound any different than other orpgs out there - while it may not be true, I would not know as you didn't give any detail at all into why this is different.

I didn't specify much about what kind of oRPG it would become because that's what we will discuss once people join up.

Am I supposed to lay out the strategy and focus even at this stage of development? I wanted the team to create the 'type' of oRPG not something I construct in stone on my own.

I could simply say that it would be a 'kill creeps/bosses and level-up to 300-type of game with PVP thrown in there somewehre' but I dont think that's fair for the people wanting to work on it. Maybe some people dont like pvp.. maybe others dont like questing.. etc.

Why do people comment on other people's posts just to try to sabotage the person who's looking for help because they have no clue about how easy it actually it to make a map with more than one person.

Just going to say what I usually say.
I hope you are actually committed. There are currently 6+ ongoing on RPG projects @ the helper. Only 1 of which I think is going to near completion.

I like, that unlike other people starting rpg teams, you lay out what you want and seem to have a more concrete plan.

However, looking through your post history inclines me to think that you aren't cut out for such a large project. You are ambitious and driven but you may be a biting off a bigger piece than you can chew.

Well, best of luck.

i can help you with triggers and all other parts as well but mostly triggers if GUI is ok? But if i join i don't want a project which will upload the map before it's fully completed i must know that you really want to complete it, unless its just waste of time. My mail is [email protected]

Hey Legacy.

Yes, you can do a search of marvey323 here and you can see how many dozens upon dozens of questions I have asked about WE but that simply means that over that course of time until now I have learned A LOT thanks to this forum.

I believe I can help make a great oRPG and all it will take is time and lots of effort, both of which I have an abundance of.

Everyone has to start somewhere. No one simply just 'knows' how to make maps the first time they lay their eyes on WE. As I've stated in my first post, I already created all the basics of an oRPG in a test map and now I want to do it for real.

I've pm'd all the people here who wanted to help out.

It just might be a good thing to be more specific on the triggering part especially. You say that JASS/GUI knowledge is good, yet you do not say anything about boundaries or limitations. A very common thing would be whether or not you use NewGen to allow for vJASS syntax.

Again, I apologize if I havent given enough info.

I do want to use NewGen, it's what I've been using to experiment with things ever since I began working with the editor. My goal was to setup a meeting on MSN with everyone interested and I would discuss the goals of the map and answer any questions and from then on people can decide to jump on board or not.

That is exactly what I am saying, except I don't think a "professional" orpg is the place to start when you are still asking questions like:

Well I've said what I wanted to. We will see how this is a month from now.

Do you have any desire to make a map like the one i described? If you do, but your just hesistant because you see that I'm a newbie mapmaker then perhaps I can show you my test map and what I have been able to accomplish thus far?

Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
