Need opinions,comments and ideas for "The Hive"

I have started with the idea of simulating an insect colony as an altered melee map. Which is my dream of having a RTS game based on insects.

However there are only 3 insect races on Warcraft and not too much models for them. I found some models from outside and created a 4th race. Now there is a 8 player melee map based on insect colonies.

You start with a Queen by a mountain which has 8 cave entries in it. Each cave goes to a different location simulated as a hive of a colony. So you select one of this caves and order your queen to go there.

Once a queen enters a cave this will be your hive and queen cannot go outside anymore. You will recieve a male(Hero) insect along to your race and queen will lay 3 eggs. this eggs are growing to larvas. You will sellect your larva and morph it to a spesific unit such as worker or a soldier.

Once a larva morphed to a worker it outomatically goes outside takes food(corpses) and returns it to hive which is needed by queen to lay more eggs. You dont need to control your workers (however you can still controll them if you want). Also there are 3 types of buildings for each race which can be built by queens including outo spell caster defences.

There are some creeps at outside too To level up your male and get items.

The aim of the map is to be the last colony standing. To defeat a player you need to kill his/her queen in a well defended hive. More explenation is in quest menu. This map is not finished yet. And has no Computer AI you can still play alone to see how its working and slay some creeps outside to see what races are there.

Herop abilities are only for this test map all of them will change to some custom trigger spells that im working on it now.

I need your opinions couse i have never seen such kind of map before and i dont want to waste the idea(and ofcourse my time) with a crappy, unbalanced map

Hm? Sounds like a Warcraft remake of SimAnt

just played the map, seems like it could turn into a fun map, but it definetily needs more units and buildings and stuff, and a bigger wood would be great to, but that would require for u to change map :/

it is not possible to add more units. it requires more models for spesific insect races. Same thing for buildings too. And think about normally insects does not have buildings to build. Only their hive.. Thats possible to chane map size and terrain. Im already thinking about it.

And what you mean abot more stuff? Think about it u will be busy enough fighting with other races. More stuff will waste game in my opinion some creeps outside will make people to work on something enough before entering a battle.

You could have race-specific upgrades.

Each race having their own strengths, ex. ants cheap, termites good builders, spiders agile, poisnous, and deadly, and wasps control air.

You could have creeps deep inside your own nest that only come out after you have dug down quite a ways.

Weather would also be cool --- don't forget to size up everything to be on the scope of the insects. Sprinklers would be hilarious if done right :)

Occasionally having humans pass through, or maybe being able to direct or lure them somehow and eventually kill them would be cool.

Being able to build hive buildings, like egg chamber and water storage, would be ok and not really violate what you wanted.

I was trying to do it
-Scorpions has good health and a upgrade for being more healty but their demage output is low however they have the best hive defence system.
-Spiders has normal health and normal demage output and they have ultimate life regeneration if all upgrades done. However their hive defences are low but they are good at stopping enemies around.
-Nerubians has low health but high demage output with a medium hive defence system. They are unstoppable with guerilla tactics and the disase they have will support this alot.
- Carions has extremely low health but they have life steal, magic immniuty and evation to support them. And they have a nice hive defence system. Also if they can live enough long to finish all upgrades they are unstoppable without massive spells.(Carions are a bit unbalanced on current test map i will sort it)
But i will edit upgrades along to the races and modify them a bit to make this spetializations sensable.

- To get ants, wasps and termites i need models i really need models for this map to make it more fun but unfortunately i could only find some bugged non attached nor animated models only.. and selected only 3 models as usable ones...
- To create more buildings, first of all again i need models. i cant even find a pupa model how can i find insectish building models? Also this will go nowhere i will have about 4+ MB map size which is unplayable in battle.net becouse of DL times. alos its not possible to have units appearing dissappearing an another unit i mean a kind of egg chamber. But i will try to create some buildings that has effect on lavra limits.

I understood that i MUST resize the map. But it is not possible to dug cliffs :p if i can alter the cliff level i can do more hivish cave smulations with rooms and tight corridors on terrain but i need a huge map for this. Without outside it will boring and i dont want all action happening in hives. I understood that all cave entries are in same place i mean at center, and this is not enableing outside wars. Will sort it.

What do you mean exactly Human creeps, human race or huge humans passing trough? Lol thats an iteresng idea to have a scale 50 human unit spawns around sometimes :) will try it and look how its will be lol

I will do it. i will resample all tarrain and doodes to have an insect looking around

Wery much thanks for your comments and ideas. They are motivating me to do a better work. I may waste the idea by getting tired of all unsuccessful trys but with your ideas this map can be really fun ty again
