Evolution is a scientific theory, not a theological belief or a religion. It is fully compatible with theism and so can not be used to disprove the existence of a god.

At one stage in human history, no one knew how a huge ball of light could cross from one side of the sky to the other over the course of each day, so religious explanations were invented to account for this and other phenomena such as the land, the stars, illness, death, birth, consciousness and existence to name a few. As human understanding progressed and intellectually satisfying explanations for some of these things developed, older religious beliefs were phased out or changed to accommodate the new discoveries. This doesn't mean that these new explanations were "theological" or "religious", it meant they filled a gap that had previously been occupied by superstition.

Evolution is really no different. It accounts for the complexity of life, and so religious beliefs will simply be modified as necessary while retaining the fundamentals. You can see already with the emergence of things such as "theistic evolution" that evolution and theism are perfectly compatible.

Maybe biology could kind of end up in such a discussion, however the point of the class is to teach about how biological entities work and adapt, not how they first came to be.

Umm... If only one thing in biology has to be taught, it must be the origin of life. This in turn can explain the point and process adaptation and every other part of life. How could you suggest that the origin of the material being studied is not relevant, especially if the origin has been theorized upon by prominent scientists?

The only thing stopping this completely is religion, but as previously mentioned, religion always eventually adapts for the truth that science reveals: (Heliocentricity, etc.)
