Hello TheHelper.net,

I came along with that Idea when I tryed to learn how this or that worked in another map. Sadly, all "Mappers" protect their Map so you can't see how the triggers works. That made me to make an Open Source RPG wich will contain many featuers such like:
  • Save and Load System
  • Floating Bar System
  • Experience System
  • Shared Bounty System
  • Spellbook System
  • Revive System
  • Injury System
  • Damage System
  • Attribute System
  • Buff System
  • Auto-Quest Update System
  • Dungeon System
  • Hero Cam System

Everybody who wants to help with this Project post in this Topic and if you want submit your Triggers to add them into the Map feel free to do so.

I'm also looking for a Terrainer, Map Size is 468x468.

Terrain [||||||||||] 0% - NPC [||||||||||] 0%

Triggers [||||||||||] 10% - Units [||||||||||] 0%

Items [||||||||||] 0% - Abillities [||||||||||] 0%

Total [||||||||||] 3.4%

This could be useful to new mappers, who have little or no experience in creating maps.

Just a few things:

1. Floating bar systems are not very useful anymore, since patch 1.22

2. What's the difference between the damage and injury system (apart from they are the opposite of each other :p) aren't they just one combat system?

3. 468x468 is a very big map for a map to learn from. Especially because new mappers will probably not have NewGen when they start. Or maybe it won't work (even with your tut :))

4. What will your buff system do?

Good luck on this project.

I'd love to help, but the thing is, I simply can't. I can't terrain, I can barely trigger (all my things end up bugged (and these TH.net people seem to be ignoring my threads)) and I hate the Object Editor. :p

Sounds cool, perhaps a bit too ambitious though. IMO, you should do what needs to be done (Bounty, Revival, Quest, Save/Load perhaps) and leave everything else as a possible addition until you've got a nice, solid foundation with the basics/essentials well-covered. There's no point having extremely high expectations, and later discovering that you may not be able to meet them, since it would be discouraging.

Floating bar systems are not very useful anymore, since patch 1.22
Floating bar doesn't have to mean health. Perhaps it could be for spellcasting (if you have spells with X second casting time), or for mana.

What's the difference between the damage and injury system
Damage system would probably link up more with spells/abilities (e.g. debuffing a target so they take 25% extra damage from all sources?), and injury system would link up with your health (e.g. you would bleed at 25% health, or something?)

What will your buff system do?
Ye, what is it supposed to do? Buff system doesn't really bring any spectacular thoughts to mind :p

I sucked at terrain before to but then i readed some tutorials and then it was a piece of cake, my main advice at that is that try to use minimal of the blizzard cliffs, they have the power to mess upp good looking terrain:D

You could include Vexorian's Caster system in the map and have a link to Jass NewGen, i discovered Jass NewGen when my map was half done and so if the newbies get it early it could save them some time :D (Also had problem implementing Vexorian's Caster System)

That's not true. :D A lot of people say Blizzard cliffs suck because others said it sucked... and it's mostly because they don't know how to use it correctly. Blizzard cliffs can look nice - you just gotta know how to manipulate them!!! :)

Woah... big map. I'm too lazy to terrain all that. :p Maybe I can do a few starting sections for a like a test. :thup:

This is a worthy project, but 468x468 is definitely too large and the map seems altogether quite ambitious for a learning map. I would be willing to contribute, but not necessarily participate.

It's worth lying down a style guide, so let me suggest:

  • All code be commented extensively with a minimum of jargon.
  • Minimal usage of vJass specific features save for globals blocks, libraries and scopes.
  • Consistent naming schemes for globals, locals, constants and functions.
  • Consistent methods for iteration, looping through units and attachment.

A lot of people say Blizzard cliffs suck because others said it sucked...

Dang it. I'd better start learning JASS then. So if this Open-Source RPG is being made to help World Editor users become better, then will the new map-makers have to learn JASS right away instead of GUI?

[EDIT]
Any map-maker, new or experienced. Not just new users because that was not specified by the thread starter. Sorry for the error.

4. What will your buff system do?

Good luck on this project.

1. Floating Bars also display your "Mana" and the "Spell Casting Time".

2. The Damage System is a System, where the Damage dealt to a Unit will be displayed by a Floating Text above the Damaged Unit. Also if you cast a Spell, the Spell will be displayed on the Screen.

3. Probablly yes, but it will contain many dungeons and other landscapes so its worth to have such a big map. I can also redirect people to my NEW GEN Tutorial.

4. The Buff System is simple, If your Hero is buffed you see Under your Armor a little Icon wich represents your Buff. If the Buff is over the Icon just expiers. But with this System, the Icon blinks 5~10 seconds before it expiers so you know, AHHH I HAVE TO BUFF UP. :)

5. I think I can't do everything in GUI, I try to do my best and if I'm forced to use JASS I will give a detailed description and also write in the Code what to change to do that and what not to change etc.

6. This all for now.

Damien, in response to my quote, what did you mean by [:shades:]? Just wanting to know. :)

1) Floating bars that display mana and spell casting time all the time? Wouldn't that kinda' be annoying as it's blocking some vision?

2) Aha. Ha. Make sure the text isn't too large. :p

So... xAnaMorphine, if you'd like, I could just do some starting terrain, or maybe go as a touch-up person. 468X468 is quite large... larger than EPIC size and that's big. :D

Dungeon System is the System made for a Dungeon.

It will contain unique boss fight triggers, events and a loot system inside.

So is this going to be something that gets like a fifth of the way done and then you get bored?

I may consider helping with terrain.

    Signatures can be edit in your account profile. As for the old stuffs, I'm thinking it's because Blizzard is now under Microsoft, and because of Microsoft Xbox going the way it is, it's dreadful.

    Crazy how much 3d printing has come in the last few years. Sad that it's not as easily modifiable though
  • Varine Varine:
    I bought an Ender 3 during the pandemic and tinkered with it all the time. Just bought a Sovol, not as easy. I'm trying to make it use a different nozzle because I have a fuck ton of Volcanos, and they use what is basically a modified volcano that is just a smidge longer, and almost every part on this thing needs to be redone to make it work
  • Varine Varine:
    Luckily I have a 3d printer for that, I guess. But it's ridiculous. The regular volcanos are 21mm, these Sovol versions are about 23.5mm
  • Varine Varine:
    So, 2.5mm longer. But the thing that measures the bed is about 1.5mm above the nozzle, so if I swap it with a volcano then I'm 1mm behind it. So cool, new bracket to swap that, but THEN the fan shroud to direct air at the part is ALSO going to be .5mm to low, and so I need to redo that, but by doing that it is a little bit off where it should be blowing and it's throwing it at the heating block instead of the part, and fuck man
  • Varine Varine:
    I didn't realize they designed this entire thing to NOT be modded. I would have just got a fucking Bambu if I knew that, the whole point was I could fuck with this. And no one else makes shit for Sovol so I have to go through them, and they have... interesting pricing models. So I have a new extruder altogether that I'm taking apart and going to just design a whole new one to use my nozzles. Dumb design.
  • Varine Varine:
    Can't just buy a new heatblock, you need to get a whole hotend - so block, heater cartridge, thermistor, heatbreak, and nozzle. And they put this fucking paste in there so I can't take the thermistor or cartridge out with any ease, that's 30 dollars. Or you can get the whole extrudor with the direct driver AND that heatblock for like 50, but you still can't get any of it to come apart
  • Varine Varine:
    Partsbuilt has individual parts I found but they're expensive. I think I can get bits swapped around and make this work with generic shit though
